Como 1907 President, Mirwan Suwarso, has provided a realistic update over Lionel Messi and puts an end to the rumors surrounding the Argentinian.
Will Lionel Messi Leave Inter Miami?
The former Barcelona star has been linked with a move away from Inter Miami in recent weeks, as Messi is reportedly keen on playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues ahead of next year’s World Cup.
However, the illustrious soccer tournament will take place in the United States and Messi is supposed to be a huge feature in the advertisement for the competition as the most notable name in Major League Soccer.
During his two-years with Inter Miami, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has made 68 appearances and contributed to 84 goals in the process (58G +26A).
The Argentinian has failed to bring the MLS title to Miami during his two seasons with the club, however, David Beckham’s have clinched the MLS Supporters Shield and MLS Cup during Messi’s time in the States.
According to betting apps, the 38-year-old could find a new club this summer and a return to Barcelona is the most favored option, while Messi’s boyhood club Newell Old Boys are also a strong contender.
Since his departure from Spain, Messi has been linked with a move back in every transfer window since and a move has failed to materialize each time.
Now, a new rumor has caught fire as Serie A side, Como 1907, are reportedly looking to bring the global soccer superstar in for the 2025/26 season.
Could Lionel Messi Join Como?
Another option for Lionel Messi this summer that has caught the headlines in Italy in recent weeks is a move to Serie A and a reunion with Cesc Fabregas at Como.
But is Lionel Messi on Como’s radar? Well, the Como 1907 manager has spoke about the idea of signing his former Barcelona teammate and sparked excitement across the club with a ‘never say never’ approach.
Fabregas said: “Messi at Como? Never say never. He was at my house on vacation, he was traveling to see some friends, and we are friends, our wives and our children too. But he’s in the United States now.”
During the Spaniard’s playing career, he made 123 appearances with the Argentinian international and together the two won La Liga, Copa del Ray, FIFA Club World Cup, Supercopa de Espana and UEFA Super Cup between 2011-2014.
Despite this strong relationship on and off the field, it appears that the idea of Messi signing for Como during this transfer window is more of a fantasy than reality.
Mirwan Suwarso, Como 1907 President, revealed that although bringing Messi to Serie A would be a ‘dream’, there is very little chance a deal is agreed – with no contact occurring between the two.
Mirwan Suwarso said: “The Messi family were guests of Fabregas and his wife. It would be a dream for him to come here, but why would he leave behind all the money he is earning now? Besides, we have not had any contact with him.”
