Fiorentina Eye-Up Premier League and Champions League Winner As Englishman Continues Search For New Club

Fiorentina are reportedly interested in former Liverpool star, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as the Englishman continues his search for a new club.

Why Is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain A Free Agent?

The career of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one that has taken multiple turns in recent years and the Englishman has endured a torrid time with injuries along the way.

Most recently the former Liverpool star was on the books at Besiktas, making 50 appearances across two seasons and parted ways with the Turkish side after his deal came to an end.

Oxlade-Chamberlain did show signs of the player that Premier League fans became accustom too during his opening stages with Liverpool, but the Brit continued to struggle with injuries – which was a key reason behind Besiktas’ decision to not extend his deal.

During his time in England, the now 32-year-old made 198 appearances for Arsenal, winning three FA Cups, before going on to make 146 appearances for Liverpool – picking up a Premier League title, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain is now in the awkward position of entering a new season without a club, with the likes of Christian Eriksen also having this issue – but the Danish midfielder has attracted interest from Roma.

The former England international has been linked with multiple clubs in recent weeks, as Leeds United and Southampton are both interested in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain as a free agent.

A move to Southampton would bring the 32-year-old’s career full circle, as the midfielder came through the ranks at the Saints and made 43 appearances before joining Arsenal in 2011.

Despite these rumors, Oxlade-Chamberlain has failed to agree a deal with any club so far and has reportedly caught the eye of Serie A giants, Fiorentina.

Are Fiorentina Interested In Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Fiorentina made some strong additions to their roster during the summer transfer window, bringing in Roberto Piccoli, Simon Sohm, Nicolò Fagioli, Albert Gudmundsson, Jacopo Fazzini, Robin Gosens, Tariq Lamptey, Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, Eman Kospo, Edin Džeko, Luca Lezzerini and Mattia Viti.

La Viola spent around €91 million and ranked sixth for the highest spenders in Serie A, sitting above the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and Bologna.

However, their most important piece of business was managing to keep a hold of Moise Kean, as the Italian was continuously linked with a move away from Italy during the summer.

Kean scored 19 Serie A goals last season and had a release clause of just €55m for the majority of the window and is now considering a possible contract extension.

Stefano Pioli’s side have made a steady start to the season, drawing both of their Serie A matches and qualifying for the Europa Conference League after beating Polissya.

Two points from two league matches may cause some concern and Pioli could be looking to add some quality to his roster outside of the transfer window.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain being a free agent, he would be allowed to sign for the club before the January window and this could tempt La Viola into making the Englishman an offer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will need to consider multiple factors when selecting his next club, but the biggest comes after the Englishman announced he is expecting a second child with popular UK music artist, Perrie Edwards.

The two have been together for just under a decade, welcoming their first child in August 2021 and the former Arsenal star proposed almost a year later in June 2022.

During Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time in Turkey, Perrie stayed in the United Kingdom to look after their son, Axel and focus on her solo career after a successful period with Little Mix.

On August 7th, Perrie took to social media to reveal that they are expecting once again and this may play a major role in where Oxlade-Chamberlain ends up – with the Premier League being a priority.
