Inter Milan Dealt Blow In Summer Pursuit For Gianluigi Donnarumma As Italian Enters Contract Extension Talks With PSG

Start

Inter Milan have been dealt a blow in their pursuit for PSG star, Gianluigi Donnarumma, as the Italian has reportedly entered negotiations over an extended deal in Paris.

Will Gianluigi Donnarumma Sign A New Deal With PSG?

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with a move back to Italy during the opening stages of the summer transfer window, but these talks have hit a new obstacle in recent weeks.

The Italian achieved his main goal as a PSG player during the 2024/25 season, winning the Champions League for the first time after a 5-0 win against Inter Milan.

His initial move to Paris in July 2021 was another step in PSG’s pursuit to win the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history, being a key member for the last four years.

Donnarumma signed as a free agent and his current deal in Paris is set to end in June 2026, with the current talks over an extended deal aiming to keep the Italian in France until 2031.

During his time in Paris, the 26-year-old has made 155 appearances across all competitions, keeping 52 clean sheets and winning five league titles, two Coup de France trophies and the Champions League.

The shot-stopper has also become a key member of the Italian national side, making 74 appearances for the Azzurri and putting in a superb performance against England to win the 2020 European Championship.

Despite these level of performances in a PSG jersey, Donnarumma is reportedly looking for a move back to Italy and has attracted interest from multiple Serie A sides.

Inter Milan are said to be pushing for a deal with the former AC Milan player, as Cristian Chivu begins his tenure as the new manager of the Nerazzurri.

Simone Inzaghi left the club following Inter’s Champions League final defeat and is now manager of Al Hilal, recently hitting back at criticsm for the move to Saudi Arabia.

Are Inter In Talks To Sign Gianluigi Donnarumma?

As previously mentioned, Inter have made some huge changes to their set-up in recent weeks by appointing Christian Chivu and are looking to make some additions this summer.

The Italian side finished second in the league and were humiliated in the Champions League, which is widely considered as a poor season for the Milan-based club.

Despite this poor season, Inter are still favorites to win the league on Serie A betting sites and are set to make wholesale changes to their side to reclaim the trophy.

A goalkeeper did not appear to be the main point of attention after Yann Sommer’s impressive season, putting in some strong displays in the run to the Champions League final.

However, the Italian side will be looking to lure Donnarumma away from Paris and will need to act before a new deal is agreed in France – which would require a bid of around $45-50m.
