Napoli Take Firm Stance Over Scott McTominay After Scottish International Attracts Interest From Saudi Arabia

Start

Napoli have taken a firm stance over the future of Scott McTominay after the Scottish international attracted interest from Saudi Arabia.

Will Scott McTominay Leave Napoli This Summer?

The former Manchester United star enjoyed his most successful campaign to date during the 2024/25 season, winning the Serie A title and the league’s MVP award during his opening year in Naples.

Putting in such a strong performance has caught the attention of several clubs across the globe, as the Scottish midfielder contributed to 18 goals in 34 league appearances (12G + 6A).

Rumors over a move this summer picked up pace after Napoli submitted a $35 million bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder, Matt O’Riley, however Antonio Conte does not appear to be interested in losing McTominay.

In a recent interview, the former Chelsea manager spoke about the Scottish international and was full of praise, highlighting how he made an instant impact on the Serie A side.

Conte said: “Scott is a player whom I really knew well. He was born and raised at Manchester United. I could see that he always made an impact when he played, but at the same time, I noticed he wasn’t used as a key player at Manchester United.

“He was hardly a starter. Honestly, we had talked about it with Giovanni Manna. He told me it was a possible solution.

“Sometimes, directors make up stories also to keep you calm. If you ask me, ‘Have you ever thought McTominay would surely arrive?’ – I’d say no.

“Don’t forget we were heading into a season without European trophies to play for, so he had to leave Manchester United to start over with us.”

McTominay’s deal in Naples is not set to expire until June 2028 and with no official bid being placed for his services, any possible deal will need to be in the $45-50m region.

Could Scott McTominay Move To Saudi Arabia?

The most linked destination for McTominay has been a move to Saudi Arabia, as Al Hilal are reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old after his impressive campaign.

Interestingly, the Saudi Arabian side are also favorites to sign another Napoli star in Victor Osimhen on Serie A betting sites and are continuing their pursuit for the Nigerian after he rejected the initial offer.

Star names across Europe have taken their trade to Saudi Arabia in recent years, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney all taking the league by storm.

It’s no secret that the Saudi Pro League is the most enticing league when it comes to wages, with multiple players earning over $1m per week – but McTominay may not be looking to join the league at this stage.

According to reports, Napoli have already turned down an offer from the Saudi Arabian side and are very much keeping McTominay in their plans for the 2025/26 season.
