Paulo Dybala Poised For Major Summer Switch After Gian Piero Gasperini Drops Argentinian From Pre-Season Clash

Start

Paulo Dybala has once again been linked with a move during a summer transfer window, as the Argentinian has attracted interest from Benfica.

Will Paula Dybala Join Benfica In Summer Transfer Window?

The Argentina international tends to take the headlines during summer transfer windows, being linked with a variety of clubs for multiple years in a row.

Despite these rumors, Dybala has donned the Roma jersey since July 2022, joining the club as a free agent after his contract with Juventus came to an end.

Since 2012, the tricky forward has competed in Italy, playing in Serie B and Serie A, making 348 appearances in the nations top-flight and contributing to 199 goals along the way (129G + 70A).

The 31-year-old has picked up a host of accolades during his time in Italy, winning five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italias, three Supercoppa Italiana trophies and a Serie B title.

His time in Rome has not been filled with success, failing to win a single piece of silverware and contributing to 64 goals in 113 appearances for the Giallorossi.

However, Roma have now seen a change in control ahead of the 2025/26 season, as Gian Piero Gasperini took the managerial reins after ending his lengthy-spell with Atalanta.

The veteran manager has decided to leave Dybala out of Roma’s upcoming pre-season fixtures, which could be viewed through a variety of different perspectives.

Some reports are suggesting that Dybala’s absence is to help the Argentinian physically next season, with Gasperini hoping to get at least 40 appearances out of the 31-year-old.

However, other reports are pointing towards a summer departure and Benfica are said to have made contact with the Italian side over a possible bid.

Can Roma Win Serie A?

Appointing Gasperini is a huge sign of intent from the senior board at Roma, with the Italian winning a Europa League trophy in Bergamo and consistently qualifying for the Champions League.

Having a man with Gasperini’s qualities in charge should bring a much-needed boost to Rome, as the Italian giants hope to end a 24-year wait for the Serie A title.

At this current moment in time, the Giallorossi are huge outsiders to win the league titles on Serie A betting sites and will need a big summer transfer window to compete with the likes of Napoli, Inter and Atalanta.

So far, Roma have signed Neil El Aynaoui, Radoslaw Zelezny, Wesley and Devis Vasquez on a permanent basis, while also bringing promising young striker, Evan Ferguson in on loan.

The Irishman scored four goals on his debut for the club (not competitive debut) and could be a huge asset for Gasperini next season – especially if the club keeps a hold of Dybala.
