USMNT’s Timothy Weah Opens About ‘Weird’ Juventus Experience With President Trump

Start

Timothy Weah has reflected on the Juventus team’s ‘weird’ encounter with President Trump prior to their Club World Cup opener against Al Ain.

The Old Lady thrashed the most successful side in UAE soccer history 5-0 on Wednesday. Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao both scored twice. Star man Kenan Yildiz also got on the scoresheet.

Igor Tudor’s side will ensure qualification for the last 16 with a victory over Morocco’s Wydad AC on Sunday. However, most of the post match talk after MD1 was the highly unusual and unexpected meeting with the US President.

Why Did Juventus Meet Donald Trump?

On Thursday, the Juventus squad’s awkward visit to Donald Trump at the White House went viral for a variety of reasons. Mainly due to what the US President said about women competing in men’s sport.

Furthermore, a press conference was held whereby Trump talked in detail about the Israel-Iran conflict. Leaving many Juve stars rather confused and uncomfortable.

However, why did the Old Lady players meet Mr Trump? The main reason can be attributed to the fact the Bianconeri were already in Washington, D.C. to play their opening Club World Cup fixture.

According to The Athletic, the actual reasoning and logistics behind the bizarre encounter are still very much unclear. The players and coaches were very much unaware their Oval Office appearance was going to be broadcast to a global audience.

Timothy Weah On Donald Trump Encounter

USMNT’s Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie were both present during the President Trump press conference. It was certainly a cringy watch as both Americans looked perplexed at what was going on.

It was all a surprise to me, honestly — they told us that we have to go and I had no choice but to go. I was caught by surprise, honestly.

“It was a bit weird. When he started talking about the politics with Iran and everything, it’s kind of like, I just want to play football man.”

Trump couldn’t help but identify Weah and McKennie as they are the only two Americans on the Juventus roster. He said: “We have two great American players. Where are you, my American players?”

Once they made their presence known, Trump added: “Fantastic, so good luck. I hope you’re going to be the best two players on the field.”

Who Will Juventus Play In The Club World Cup?

Juventus are next up in action against Wydad AC in Philadelphia on Sunday. They will play the Moroccan side at the Lincoln Financial Field.

The Old Lady’s last group fixture comes against reigning CWC champions Man City next Thursday. The two European heavyweights will go toe-to-toe at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
