The Turin-based Serie A side got off to a miserable start on the opening weekend, suffering a 5-0 defeat to Inter Milan thanks to braces from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, while Alessandro Bastoni added another.

Marco Baroni was not best pleased with his side’s performance at the San Siro and made an interesting observation after the match – claiming his side did not commit enough fouls.

Baroni said (Via DAZN): “It was a painful result, it must give us the right determination and grit going forward, the kind we were sadly missing.The team hadn’t started badly, but didn’t play with the right ferocity.

“A team like Torino cannot commit just two fouls in the first half, we should’ve pressed Inter more, and that is certainly something we need to work on.”

Prior to their crushing defeat, Torino picked up a 1-0 victory over Modena in the Coppa Italia and will be looking to use this display as they welcome Fiorentina on August 31st.

Fiorentina are coming off a huge European victory, beating Polissya 6-2 across two-legs, despite a brief scare in the opening half at home as the Ukrainian side scored two in the first 14 minutes to bring the aggregate score to 3-2.

Edin Dzeko was on target to secure Fiorentina’s place in Europe and this result was much-needed after a poor 1-1 stalemate with Cagliari on the opening weekend of the season.
