André Villas-Boas, the newly elected president of FC Porto, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding Francisco Conceicao’s loan move to Juventus. Speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Villas-Boas explained that the young player’s departure was closely tied to his father Sergio Conceicao’s exit from the club’s managerial position.
“In the end, there was an emotional component, linked to his father,” Villas-Boas stated. “Together with his agent, we decided it was better for everyone to arrange this year-long loan.”
The change in Porto’s leadership, with Villas-Boas taking over as president, led to Sergio Conceicao’s departure despite having recently renewed his contract. This, in turn, influenced Francisco’s move away from the club.
Regarding the details of the transfer, Villas-Boas revealed, “We made this agreement with Juventus for a loan without an option: a loan of 7 million that can reach 10 million.”
The Porto president was effusive in his praise for the young talent: “He’s a star, and a talent like him costs a lot, which is why Juventus paid this amount. We decided it was better for everyone to have this year on loan. He’s doing well, despite the unfortunate red card and injury, but he’s an excellent player who can reach a very high level.”
