Vincenzo Grifo signed a new deal in Germany before the 2025/26 campaign began, as the Italian agreed a season-long deal with Freiburg.

This renewed deal has proven to be a shrewd piece of business by the Bundesliga side, as Grifo has registered 11 goal contributions in 21 appearances this season (8G + 3A).

An exact length of the renewed deal was not confirmed by Freiburg back in June, but reports revealed that the Italian agreed to another year in Germany.

Given Grifo’s recent performances, Freiburg are now willing to offer the Italy international an extended deal for the 2026/27 campaign.

The 32-year-old has spent his entire soccer career in Germany, being born in Pforzheim, Germany, to Italian parents and working his way through the Bundesliga ranks.

Grifo has made over 280 Bundesliga appearances during his spells with Hoffenheim, Borussia Monchengladbach and Freiburg, while also earning nine caps for the Italian national team.

A host of Serie A sides have shown interest in Grifo during recent transfer windows, with Roma, Bologna and Lazio all contacting the Italian previously.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have struggled to score this season, although the stats show that Roma’s lake of goals aren’t totally unsustainable – but the Giallorossi are still searching for a new talisman.

However, it’s Roma’s fierce rivals that are leading the race to sign Grifo in 2026, as Lazio are planning on making some key additions after their transfer ban comes to an end.

Lazio Consider Vincenzo Grifo Deal

The Laziali are looking to bring in multiple star during the January transfer window, as Maurizio Sarri’s side were unable to make any additions during the summer.

Lazio were punished for breaching financial parameters in Italy, being dealt a transfer embargo in March 2025 and this ban will come to end in January.

Sarri is hoping to sign players in a variety of positions and Vincenzo Grifo has been targeted as a top contender to help in front of goal.

Another issue that Lazio will have to deal with is the rumors surrounding Matteo Guendouzi, after being linked with Sunderland and the Italian side may be forced into a sale.

Bringing in a player of Grifo’s quality may soften the blow for Lazio supporters if Guendouzi does move back to the Premier League and the Laziali will be aware of the 32-year-old’s contract situation.

Lazio are unlikely to match Grifo’s current salary of €87,000 per week, however, the Italian giants will be able to make a fair offer as Freiburg’s asking price will drop as the Italian’s deal nears its end.
