Who Is Gilberto Mora? Serie A Giants Set Sights On Mexican Teenage Sensation

Gilberto Mora has been tipped to become one of the biggest stars in Mexican soccer history and the 17-year-old has attracted interest from Serie A side, AC Milan.

Who Is Gilberto Mora?

The 17-year-old has caught the eye of several European sides this season after his performances for Club Tijuana and saw his profile raise even further in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Born on October 14th 2008, Mora is one of the brightest sparks in Mexican soccer and is currently enjoying his second season as a professional player.

His meteoric rise in the sport saw Mora become the youngest player in Liga MX history, debuting at 15 years and 308 days in August 2024, before becoming the youngest goalscorer in the leagues’ history a few weeks later.

Since then, the teenager has gone on to make 41 appearances for Tijuana across all competitions, contributing to nine goals along the way (7G + 2A).

Mora’s performances at club level are not the only talking-point from his career so far, as the 17-year-old was a part of the Mexico side that lifted the Gold Cup in July 2025.

The youngster started in the quarter-final, semi-final and final, assisting the winner in a 1-0 victory over Honduras to secure a spot in the final against the United States.

At just 16 years and 265 days, Mora became the youngest player to win a senior-level international soccer final – taking this record from Lamine Yamal.

Multiple young players from the American continent have been linked with moves to Europe, with Santiago Lencina attracting interest from Serie A after impressive at River Plate.

However, Mora offers something different as the Mexican international can play in a variety of positions due to his intelligence and creativity with the ball.

The teenager has been utilized on the left of a midfield three for the Mexican senior side, but was recently deployed in a forward role of the U-1o side at the World Cup.

Mora contributed to five goals in Mexico U-20’s run to the quarter-finals (3G + 2A) and highlighted how his passing, vision and dribbling skills can be accompanied by a ruthlessness in front of goal.

Will AC Milan Sign Gilberto Mora?

The Rossoneri will be well aware that is only early the stages of the 2025/26 season, however, sitting top of Serie A will certainly be a huge boost to Allegri’s side after finishing eighth last season.

Finding success this season will be Milan’s primary objective, however, Allegri will be well aware that he needs to strengthen for the future and target younger players going forward.

Milan’s current midfield roster is somewhat of an ageing group, with Luka Modric (40), Adrien Rabiot (30), and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (29) all in the latter stages of their career.

As we have mentioned, Mora has the ability to play in central midfield and the front-line, but the Rossoneri have targeted Julian Alavarez to help boost their attack.

Mora’s creative spark would be a huge benefit to a Milan side that has scored less goals than both of their Serie A title contenders, Napoli and Inter Milan – as Allegri is falling out of faith with Santiago Gimenez.

The Mexican striker has not scored a league goal this season and is in danger of dropping out of Allegri’s plans, but the former Feyenoord player could play a huge role in bringing Mora to Milan.

Gimenez was a part of Mexico’s Gold Cup squad earlier this year, playing alongside Mora and is an example of a Mexican earning a spot in one of the biggest teams in Italy.

Can Gilberto Mora Sign A Contract In Europe?

Rumors of a move away from Tijuana have started to gain traction after his performances at the U-2o World Cup, but any talks of a contract will have to wait due to Mora’s age – as he is still on an academy deal with the Mexican side.

The Rossoneri will have to wait until October 2026 Mora can head to Italy, as the Mexican must wait until he is 18 to make the trip to Europe – but Milan can agree a deal in advance.

An exact fee for the Mexican will depend on his performances for the remainder of this season, however, the current transfer record for a player leaving Mexico’s top division is €20 million (Maximiliano Araujo to Sporting Lisbon) and Mora has become somewhat of a record breaker in recent years.
