Referee Paolo Valeri is set to be suspended for one round of Serie A matches after his performance during Fiorentina 4-3 defeat against Inter. The official was already facing criticism earlier this week when he admitted to making a mistake in the VAR room during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta, admitting that Hans Hateboer should have been given a red card for a foul on Rafael Leao.
Valeri presided over a fiery match at the Franchi last night and made a number of dubious decisions, including missing what looked to be a clear red card for Federico Dimarco for the knee-high tackle on Giacomo Bonaventura.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the refereeing designator has evaluated Valeri’s performance and made the decision to drop him for the next round of Serie A fixtures.
The decision will not be formally announced, but the official will not be on the list for the round of games.
