OFFICIAL: Atalanta sign Emil Holm

Start

Atalanta have completed the loan signing of young Swedish full-back Emil Holm from Spezia, and have the option to sign him outright next summer. La Dea were thought to be in a race with Juventus to secure the 23-year-old, but while the Bianconeri were looking to loan the player back to La Spezia, Atalanta have plans to bring him straight into their first team. A statement on the clubs official website confirmed his arrival:

Atalanta B.C. are pleased to announce the signing of footballer Emil Alfons Holm from Spezia Calcio. The 23-year-old right-footed Swedish wingback joins the Nerazzurri on loan until the 30th of June 2024 with an option to make the move permanent and will wear the no. 3 shirt.

Last season, during his very first Serie A campaign, he made 20 appearances (scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists) with Spezia in Italy’s top division and played 3 Coppa Italia matches.

Born in Göteborg on the 13th of May 2000, after making his first footballing steps in the amateur club Annebergs IF, he joined IFK Göteborg’s Academy, with whom he signed his first professional contract.

While he made his debut for his hometown Club shortly after turning nineteen, his first-ever goal dates back to the 8th of November. After 42 appearances, 2 goals and 5 assists with IFK Göteborg, in the January transfer window of 2021, Holm joined Danish side Sönderjyske, where he stayed until the end of the 2021/22 season playing 44 matches scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists. Signed by Spezia in late August 2021, Holm was left on loan at Sönderjyske until the end of the 2021/22 season before making the move permanent.

Thus far, Holm represented the Swedish national side twice after having made 9 appearances and scored two goals for the Blågult U-21s.

Atalanta B.C. would like to extend a warm welcome to Emil Holm and wish him the best of luck in his future personal and team endeavours as a Nerazzurro.
