Daniele De Rossi has provided a major update on his future in management, while also giving his thoughts on Roma appointing Gian Piero Gasperini.

Does De Rossi Have A Future In Management?

The Italian soccer legend retired from his playing days in January 2020, ending a career that spanned across 18-years and included 623 appearances as a professional player.

De Rossi won a variety of trophies during his career, winning two Coppa Italias, a Supercoppa Italiana, Primera Division Argentina title and World Cup with Italy.

Following his retirement, De Rossi has taken the plunge into management has taken the reins at SPAL and Roma so far, failing to make a major impact at either.

The former Roma star was in charge of 17 games with SPAL, winning three, drawing six and losing eight, in a tenure that began in October 2022 and ended in February 2023.

A year later, the Italian returned to Rome, taking control of Roma on January 16th 2024, where he oversaw 30 matches before leaving the club in September 2024.

Since then, De Rossi has been rumored with a return to management and was reportedly in talks with Monza, but the Italian recently revealed that no deal was agreed between himself and the Serie B side.

De Rossi said: “I can say that I was never close to Monza, despite my ties to Baldissoni and Burdisso. I had a few conversations with other clubs – it’s not about the division. There are some places I’d love regardless of the league.”

Monza finished bottom of Serie A last season, re-appointing Alessandro Nesta in February 2025 just seven weeks after sacking the Italian and are one of the favorites to win Serie B on the best betting apps.

What Did De Rossi Say About Roma Appointing Gasperini?

Italian soccer was left stunned after Gian Piero Gasperini left his post as Atalanta manager to take the reins at Roma, replacing Claudio Ranieri who has taken a director role in the Italian capital.

The veteran manager achieved huge success in Bergamo, qualifying for the Champions League on multiple occasions and winning the 2024 Europa League.

His move to Rome has not got off to a flying start, as Roma are the only Serie A side to not make a signing in the summer transfer window, but the Giallorossi are set to offer Jack Grealish a career lifeline.

With the 2025/26 season edging closer, De Rossi gave his thoughts on Gasperini’s appointment and revealed that his own time as Roma manager may have come too soon.

De Rossi said: “My last farewell with the Friedkins was very positive, despite our mutual disappointment. I feel gratitude towards them and have good memories.

“Do I dream of returning to Roma? Maybe it happened too early and so it could happen again one day, but I hope Gasperini lasts a long time like he did at Atalanta and enjoys the same satisfaction.

“I didn’t expect to be called back in the summer. The decision to appoint Gasperini is strong and positive for both the club and the city.”
