Edin Dzeko Pleads With Fiorentina Sensation To Improve After Committing Future To Serie A Side

Start

Edin Dzeko has given his thoughts on Moise Kean after the former Inter star signed for Fiorentina and hopes the Italian striker can improve in 2025/26.

Why Did Dzeko Join Fiorentina?

The veteran goalscorer has a rich history in Italy, playing for Inter Milan, Roma and now returning to Serie A for what could be a final time, as the Bosnian joined Fiorentina as a free agent.

Across his multiple spells in Italy, the 39-year-old has made 268 Serie A appearances, scoring 107 goals and contributing with a further 50 assists.

Interestingly, Dzeko has never won the Serie A title but did pick up two Coppa Italias with Inter between 2021-2023 and won the league’s Golden Boot in 2016/17 with Roma – scoring 29 goals.

Given the Bosnian’s age, this is likely his last major move to a top five league and has been signed on a one-year deal following a prolific spell with Fenerbahce.

Dzeko made 99 appearances for the Turkish side, contributing to 64 goals (46G + 18A) and was not showing any signs of slowing down in the 2024/25 campaign as he scored 21 goals across all competitions.

Stefano Poli will be calling upon Dzeko’s experience to help his side climb the Serie A after finishing sixth and qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

The Serie A side are one of the favorites to win the Europa Conference League on the best betting apps and Dzeko will add invaluable experience, as Fiorentina’s roster has an average age of 26.1.

Speaking on his move to Florence, the former Manchester City star revealed that he was desperate to return to Italy and believes Fiorentina need to ‘think big’.

Dzeko said: “When my agent told me about Fiorentina, I wanted to sign immediately. I had no other ideas in mind. I just wanted to return to a big club and to Italy. Everyone speaks highly of this city; there will be time to explore it with my wife.

“If we’re not included in the race for the top spots, maybe it is better for us – but Fiorentina need to think big! We’re all good guys but we shouldn’t always be that way on the pitch.”

What Did Edin Dzeko Say About Moise Kean?

Initially, Dzeko’s move to Fiorentina may have been completed to fill the void made by a Moise Kean departure, however, the Italian striker is set to stay in Florence.

Kean looked to be heading away from the Italian side as his contract included an intriguing $55 million release clause, but this offer expired on July 15th – meaning any interested party will be unwilling to pay Fiorentina’s new asking price.

The former Everton striker enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign, finishing as the second highest scorer in Serie A with 19 goals and ending a run of poor campaigns.

Poli will be hoping to extend Kean’s deal in Italy, especially as another Fiorentina star has attracted interest from a trio of Premier League sides – with Amir Richardson being linked with a move to England.

With Kean looking likely to stay in Florence, Dzeko will most likely act as a back-up for the majority of the season and the Bosnian gave his thoughts on the Italian international, believing Kean can still improve.

Dzeko said: “Moise can still improve, but last year showed more of who he is, just like Albert did in his first year in Serie A. There’s no competition between attackers. I always say that great players need to play together.

“But the first thing to think about is the team. I’ve always thought about the team before myself and I want to help make my teammates even stronger and help them however I can.”
