Inter Are Monitoring Conor Gallagher Amid Potential Atletico Madrid Sale

Start

Inter are keeping tabs on Conor Gallagher’s situation at Atletico Madrid, sources have told us, as the Nerazzurri consider future midfield reinforcements in light of potential outgoings.

Gallagher joined Atletico just last summer, but with Johnny Cardoso and Alex Baena arriving in recent weeks, the Spanish club appears open to letting the English midfielder leave – just a year after signing him for around £40 million.

Although Inter are not short on midfield talent, with Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, and Davide Frattesi all under contract, the club could be tempted to make a move depending on the market, particularly if Kristjan Asllani leaves.

Is Atletico Selling Conor Gallagher?

Gallagher made a positive impression during his first season in Spain. He featured in 50 games across all competitions, starting 19 times in La Liga.

While his role shifted between central midfield and wide left, his energy, movement, and ball-carrying remained consistent.

Internally, Atletico are said to be happy with Gallagher, but the recent signings of Cardoso and Baena have reshaped their midfield plans. The England international may now be seen as surplus to requirements given the options available to Diego Simeone.

Additionally, Gallagher occupies a non-EU registration slot, which can often play a bigger role in Spanish football’s squad decisions than performance metrics alone.

Gallagher isn’t the only Atletico player being sought after by a Serie A club this summer – Juventus are also targeting right-back Nahuel Molina as part of their push to strengthen the flanks, even after sealing a deal for Joao Mario.

Conor Gallagher Transfer Latest: Spurs, Newcastle, and Inter Circling

Gallagher has already attracted interest from the Premier League, with Tottenham and Newcastle United both weighing up potential bids.

Tottenham has long admired the player, and Thomas Frank is reportedly an admirer of Gallagher’s work rate and tactical versatility.

Inter, meanwhile, are yet to register formal interest, but their recruitment team is monitoring the situation.

With Atletico open to offers and Gallagher’s contract running until 2029, any potential suitor is likely to be quoted a similar fee to last summer’s £40m move from Chelsea.

Gallagher’s La Liga numbers don’t show any major decline. His defensive output was marginally lower compared to his Chelsea days, but that’s mostly attributed to his different role under Simeone.

In fact, according to StatsBomb, he showed slight upticks in dribbling, carrying, and off-ball value (OBV) – indicators that he’s adapted well to a less pressing-intensive system.

Inter’s Midfield Plan: Gallagher in, Asllani out?

Inter’s interest is exploratory at this stage, but it may grow stronger if Kristjan Asllani is sold.

The Albanian international has reportedly drawn interest from Serie A and Bundesliga clubs, and an exit would open space both in the squad and on the wage bill.

Gallagher doesn’t profile as a like-for-like Asllani replacement – he’s more of a box-to-box presence, closer to Barella in style than a deep-lying regista.

But Inter’s recruitment in recent years has shown a willingness to focus on versatility and internal rotation rather than rigid roles.

Ultimately, though, Gallagher remains happy in Madrid and isn’t actively seeking a transfer — but that could change if it becomes clear he’s no longer in Simeone’s plans.

At 25 years old, the England midfielder is entering his prime and will want to secure regular starts, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.

Inter, for their part, have no urgent need to buy — but like any top club, they are opportunistic in the market.

With Premier League clubs circling and Atletico looking to rebalance their squad, this could become one of the more intriguing midfield transfer stories of the summer.
