The Azzurri will kick-off a new era on September 5th, as Gennaro Gattuso enters the dugout for the first time after taking the reins from Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti was relieved of his duties following a run of poor results and early exit from Euro 2024, meaning Gattuso was handed the task of bringing the nation together ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The former AC Milan midfielder has made his intentions clear from the get-go, selecting three players who could make their debut for Italy in Pio Esposito, Giovanni Leoni and Giovanni Fabbian.

Promoting the youth and giving promising Italian players a chances is clearly something Gattuso is looking to do, while also leaving out some big names like Federico Chiesa.

The Azzurri currently stand third in Group I of the World Cup qualifying stage, nine points behind table-toppers, Norway, (with two games in hand) and are in desperate need for six points from the next two matches.

As for Estonia, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is somewhat of a dream as the European nation has never competed at the iconic international tournament.

Jurgen Henn’s side have picked up three points from their opening four matches, beating Moldova but suffering two defeats against Israel – while also losing to Norway most recently.

There had been a sense of optimism ahead of this World Cup qualifying stage, as Estonia managed to avoid relegation from their UEFA Nations League group – but this has quickly faded.

To make matters worse, Estonia’s chances of turning their fate around against Italy appear to be very unlikely when going through history, as they have never beaten the Azzurri.

Italy have faced Estonia seven times, winning on each occasion and the Azzurri have only conceded two goals along the way – scoring 20 themselves.

As we have previously mentioned, the Azzurri have a flawless record against Estonia and their most recent meeting came in November 2020, with Italy picking up a 4-0 win.

Italy ended a run of four matches without a win in their latest fixture, as Giacomo Raspadori and Andrea Cambiaso were on target to secure a 2-0 victory over Moldova.

With that in mind, we expect Gennaro Gattuso to get off to a winning start as Italy boss and continue the Azzurri’s streak against Estonia with a 3-0 win at the Gewiss Stadium.
