AC Milan On Course To Lose First Game Back After The International Break – Here’s The Stats That Reveal Why

AC Milan are set to lose their MD7 clash with Serie A results typically going against the Rossoneri straight after an international break. 

Max Allegri’s side takes on Fiorentina at the San Siro on October 19. History and the stats are very much against the Diavolo who have the poorest win % of Italy’s biggest clubs.

With a Christian Pulisic injury to contend with as well, the omen doesn’t look good for Allegri’s side. Over the last ten seasons – including 2025-26 – Milan has lost 11 of 33 fixtures and have just 13 wins to their name.

That will give the likes of Napoli, Inter Milan and Roma a huge boost as the race for the Scudetto begins to take shape over the coming weeks.

Who Are Serie A’s Biggest Clubs?

Traditionally, the historic trio of Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are considered to be Italy’s biggest clubs. They are certainly the most successful and have boasted a plethora of world class stars in their ranks over the years.

They are easily the most-well supported clubs in Italy and across the world, too. Furthermore, they were responsible for a number of Serie A’s most expensive summer signings earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the phrase “the seven sisters” is typically coined to include the likes of AS Roma, Fiorentina, Napoli and Lazio as Italy’s biggest clubs.

However, we have included Atalanta in our research owing to their recent successes and high finishes. Although Ademola Lookman’s transfer saga tarnished La Dea’s plans in 2025-26, it’s only fair to analyze them.

Serie A Results After The September 2025 International Break

With just one set of results to analyze so far for this season, Atalanta, Milan, Juventus and Napoli all tasted victory. Interestingly, Juve and Gli Azzurri beat fellow ‘big eight‘ sides (Inter and Fiorentina).

As for Lazio and Roma, the Biancocelesti lost 1-0 to recently-promoted Sassuolo. Whereas Gian Piero Gasperini’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Torino.

That gives a 50% win rate for all of the teams in question. However, with two fixtures pitting sides up against each other, there was always going to be at least two sides whereby it was impossible to achieve a W.

Napoli Has The Best Serie A Results

Having analyzed the top eight sides’ from the current campaign back until 2017-18, Napoli has the best Serie A results after the international break.

The current Scudetto holders – who are aiming to sign Rasmus Hojlund permanently – have a win percentage of 69%. Of the 33 fixtures contested, Gli Azzurri boast an impressive 23 victories.

They have only lost five times and entertained the same number of draws. Furthermore, if Hojlund continues his hot streak in front of goal, that percentage could further increase come the end of the season.

Recent reports have suggested striker Romelu Lukaku could quit Naples if he doesn’t regain his place once he returns from injury. However, supporters won’t be too fazed owing to Hojlund’s form.

As long as they have a top tier goalscorer in their ranks, they’ll surely continue to boast the best win % after the four international breaks come the end of the season.

AC Milan Has The Lowest Win Percentage

As it stands, Milan has the poorest Serie A results after the international break. Since the 2017-18 season, the Rossoneri has won just 13 times from 33 attempts.

Therefore, they have a win percentage of 39%. Only Atalanta have lost the same number of games as Diavolo (11) but La Dea have won six more matches.

This season, Max Allegri achieved a 1-0 victory over Bologna which did at least boost the percentage slightly. Once October’s break is concluded, Allegri’s side will face struggling Fiorentina at home.

A fixture that many will expect the Rossoneri to obtain maximum points. Milan have enjoyed a strong start to 2025-26 with their only defeat coming against Cremonese on MD1.

However, their typically poor form after an international break will give La Viola hope. Especially as Stefano Pioli’s side have struggled to get going themselves this season and have a prime opportunity to capitalize.

Final Standings After The International Break

Napoli were the clear winners with a win percentage of 69%. Taking the second and third spots are Inter and Juventus. Both sides won 20 of their 33 fixtures.

Atalanta, Lazio and Roma came just outside the podium spots. The trio of clubs all produced 19 wins which equates to a win percentage of 57%.

Fiorentina finished just above the bottom spot with 14 victories to their name. La Viola has a 42% win record with Milan completing the table on 39%.
