Seven Serie A sides are competing in Europe this season, but how are the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Atalanta and Napoli doing?

Juventus

Juventus have made a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, as the Bianconeri have failed to win any of their three matches so far.

Igor Tudor’s side kicked-off their European venture with a dramatic 4-4 draw with Borussia Dortmund, before playing out another goal-filled stalemate with Villarreal on MD2.

These fortunate draws would come to an end in Juventus’ latest UCL clash, as the Old Lady were narrowly beaten by Real Madrid – with Jude Bellingham scoring the eventual winner.

Juventus are now winless from their last seven matches across all competitions and the 37-time Serie A winners could appoint a new manager if Igor Tudor cannot improve performances.

Inter Milan have found far more success than Juventus in the Champions League so far, as the Nerazzurri have enjoyed a flawless run in Europe this season.

Cristian Chivu’s side have won each of their opening three matches, securing victories over Ajax, Slavia Prague and Union Saint-Gilloise without conceding a goal.

The Serie A giants now sit third in the Champions League after MD3 and will be looking to secure Europe’s biggest prize after reaching the final twice in the last three seasons.

Lautaro Martinez has been one of the standout performers in the UCL so far, as the Argentine has scored three goals and ranks 10th in the goal-scoring charts.

Napoli

After securing the Scudetto last season, Napoli were tipped to achieve huge things in the Champions League this season – but there performances have failed to meet expectations.

Antonio Conte’s side were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City on the opening day, before turning their fortunes around with a narrow victory over Sporting Lisbon.

Rasmus Hojlund bagged a brace to secure all-three points over the Portuguese side and the Danish international has been an instant hit in Naples.

However, the Serie A champions were humiliated in their latest European outing, suffering a 6-2 thrashing to PSV which also brought the clubs’ second red card in the UCL this season.

This was the first time that Conte has seen one of his sides concede six goals and has increased the pressure on the Napoli Manager meaning the Italian will need to make some key adjustments to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Atalanta

The last Serie A side that is competing in the Champions League is 2024 Europa League winners, Atalanta, and La Dea have covered all bases so far – picking up a win, draw and defeat.

Ivan Juric’s men were beaten 4-0 by last year’s champions, PSG, on MD1, before securing a hard-fought victory over Club Brugge at the Gewiss Stadium.

Most recently Atalanta were held to a 0-0 draw by Slavia Prague and made it three consecutive draws across all competitions – scoring just one goal in the process.

Europa League

Roma

Moving down to Europe’s secondary competition now and Roma have failed to build on an impressive start to the Serie A season, winning just one game in the Europa League.

The Giallorossi began their European venture with a 2-1 victory over Nice, before suffering consecutive defeats to Lille and Viktoria Plzen – putting the Italian side in 23rd.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have struggled to find the back of the net this season and are reportedly looking to address this problem in January as Roma are interested in Ayase Ueda from Feyenoord.

Bologna

Bologna booked their place in Europe after winning Coppa Italia last season and are making steady progress in the Europa League so far, picking up four points from three matches.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side are improving in every match, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa during MD1, holding Freiburg to a 1-1 draw in the following week and securing a 2-1 win over Steaua Bucharest (FCSB) most recently.

With results improving on a weekly basis in Europe, Bologna will be looking to rise up the table and win their first piece of European silverware since 1998.

Europa Conference League

Fiorentina

Finally we have Fiorentina, who are the only Italian side in this year’s Europa Conference League and La Viola have made a flawless start to their European journey.

Stefano Pioli’s side have picked up maximum points with wins over Sigma Olomouc and SK Rapid Wien, as the Serie A side are yet to concede a goal.

These strong performances in the Conference League are much-needed, as the Florence-based side are yet to win in Serie A and sit in the relegation zone.
