Luciano Spalletti is urging Juventus into making a decision over Weston McKennie, as the USMNT midfielder’s contract nears its end.

Luciano Spalletti Wants To Keep Weston McKennie

In June 2026, Weston McKennie’s deal with Juventus will come to an end and the USMNT star will be able to leave Turin as a free agent.

This is news that has alerted Luciano Spalletti, as the Italian is keen on keeping McKennie at the club and is pushing to reignite negotiations over a new contract.

McKennie was in talks to extend his time in Serie A, however, these discussions came to a halt during the 2024/25 campaign and the 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a January exit.

Selling the American international in January appeared to be a priority for the Bianconeri as they look to recoup some funds for McKennie – but Spalletti may bring this possibility to an end.

These negotiations come at an interesting time for the USMNT player after McKennie’s Champions League goal against Pafos on December 10th.

Former AC Milan manager Fabio Capello described Juve’s display as flat, but McKennie was a standout player for the Bianconeri and proved that he can play a crucial role.

The 27-year-old has started in every match since Spalletti took the reins on November 1st, which will be a crucial factor for McKennie when considering a new deal ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

However, the USMNT star has expressed an interest in returning to his home nation and competing in Major League Soccer – attracting interest from multiple sides.

Inter Miami Target Weston McKennie

Despite being born in the United States, McKennie has never competed in MLS and is keen on playing in North America before his career comes to an end.

Inter Miami have shown heavy interest in the Juventus midfielder and are in a strong bargaining position after winning the MLS Cup for the first time in franchise history.

McKennie is also keen on playing alongside soccer icon Lionel Messi, as the Argentine recently signed a new deal with Inter Miami and won the 2025 MVP award.

Another USMNT player that resides in Italy has expressed an interest in donning an MLS jersey is Christian Pulisic, as the 28-year-old continues to perform in Milan.

The Rossoneri are currently trying to extend the American’s deal in Italy, but are having issues with Pulisic’s demands during negotiations and this could push their talisman into a move back to the U.S.

McKennie’s future is far more unsettled than his international teammate and Spalletti will have to act fast as the prospect of playing in Miami may prove too tempting for the Juve midfielder.
