With his City contract set to run down in June, Silva will become a free agent. A host of elite clubs are circling for his signature and Juventus, keen to get ahead of the competition, have made an early move.

The 31-year-old is now able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of England after his deal at the Etihad Stadium ticked into its final six months.

According to La Stampa, they have made contact over a move in a bid to tie him down for next season.

Since joining City from Monaco in July 2017, the midfielder has established himself as a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering juggernaut, winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Guardiola himself recently admitted Silva could bring an end to his nine-year spell.

Indeed, the player is understood to be open to a new challenge, but he has not made a decision on his future.

Eager to formalise their interest, Juventus have begun initial talks to assess the deal’s finances and feasibility. Intriguingly, they have also not ruled out making a surprise swoop this month.

The Turin giants’ hierarchy are known to be aware that they need to rejuvenate their squad with strong leaders and personalities, traits valued highly by head coach Luciano Spalletti.

Silva would tick both of these boxes and undoubtedly help to elevate the level of the team.

Man City Want Bernardo Silva To Stay

City, though, have not given up hope that the Portuguese international will decide to stay at the club.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League heavyweights are working hard to tie him down to a new deal. Guardiola, the publication says, still views Silva as one of the first names on his team sheet.

He is now City’s club captain and has already made 27 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal. Underlining his invaluable status, he has started 17 of his side’s 21 top-flight matches to date.

In November, Guardiola hailed Silva as one of the best players he has ever coached.

“Top, high,” he said. “One of the best, can do everything.

“He doesn’t score too many goals or is not involved in all the assists. He has never done that, but he gives us and himself something that is not in the stats, and a lot of things that are incredibly valuable to us.

“Absolutely one of the best players I have ever trained in my career.”
