Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly handed in his resignation as Marseille coach amid rumours linking him with Manchester United.
The Ligue 1 side suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Club Brugge in the final Champions League group-stage game. As a result, they finished 25th.
With the top eight qualifying automatically for the last 16 and ninth to 24th entering playoff contention, Marseille’s European adventure came to an end.
Over the course of Wednesday, reports emerged claiming Marseille were considering De Zerbi’s position as coach.
However, fresh reports have appeared which suggest De Zerbi himself has asked to leave the French club.

Roberto De Zerbi has been at Marseille since June 2024, but it looks like his tenure at the club is coming to an end.
French outlet Footmercato has reported that De Zerbi has asked to leave the club amid crunch talks over his future.
TNT Sports have also relayed reports on De Zerbi’s future, claiming he has tendered his resignation.

Roberto De Zerbi: Where he could go next
Roberto De Zerbi has enjoyed a bright career in soccer, managing a host of clubs and earning widespread praise.
His career has seen him coach at Foggia, Palermo, Benevento, Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 46-year-old Italian has overseen 17 wins, two draws and 11 defeats in all competitions with Marseille this term.
Only a few weeks ago, reports linking De Zerbi with Manchester United were doing the rounds.
Michael Carrick is in charge until the end of the season following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Tottenham Hotspur could also be in the picture as Thomas Frank continues to struggle at domestic level.
There is also always the opportunity to return to Serie A in his home country. Clubs will no doubt be eager to snap him up.
In other news, it remains to be seen what happens with Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri.
Part of the reason Arsenal loaned Nwaneri to Marseille was because they wanted him to play under De Zerbi.
