Buffon: ‘Conte at Napoli is like cheese on pasta, there’s nothing better’

Former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon weighed in on the expected managerial changes for Napoli and the Bianconeri. Thiago Motta is expected to be announced as the new Juve coach next week, while Conte has reportedly reached an agreement with Napoli to take over from Francesco Calzona.

Speaking with Radio Deejay, Buffon touched on both expected appointments saying:

“If it were the ’90s, Thiago Motta  would have been coaching a top club two or three years ago. He had an excellent career as a player and has given significant answers as a coach, especially with Spezia. He went to Napoli after being sacked and won, which shows we’re dealing with someone different from the others.”

“Conte at Napoli? It’s like cheese on macaroni. There couldn’t be a better fit.”

Buffon also spoke about the Italian national team’s underdog status heading into future competitions. “We’re flying under the radar, and that’s not a bad thing. For the values I’ve perceived—morals, a sense of belonging, depth, and quality—we are a strong national team. We have additional assets like Spalletti and his staff. Luciano is like me, a wild animal that needs to be unleashed.”
