Gian Piero Gasperini deflected talk of Atalanta being in the title race, saying his team just want to play good games. La Dea were in imperious form against Monza, taking an early lead through Ederson before a brace of Gianluca Scamacca goals sealed the match, making it 3-0. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia after the game, the Atalanta boss touched on the improved form of his boys compared to the match against Frosinone, and explained why he prefers to judge the strength of the clubs transfer window on the pitch:
“Happy with the performance? In Frosinone we had a setback, but today we played a good game against a team that puts anyone in trouble. We grew over the course of the match, we did well technically and in rhythm.”
“I don’t know if we have been reinforced (in the transfer market), I always prefer to wait for the matches. The objectives at the moment cannot be said, we have renewed especially in attack and Holm has also arrived. The team has maintained a framework for several years.”
“Zapata? When we said goodbye it felt like an era was ending, but the one about to open brings motivation and enthusiasm. The focus is on the new boys: Scamacca, De Ketelaere wanted to come here. We are very close and there is a lot of excitement for this season. I wish Zapata all the best.”
“Scudetto? I was happy with everyone’s game today. One of our main objectives is always to play good games to make our people happy, like we did tonight. It goes beyond the scudettos, we want a serene and happy environment. This distinguishes us from others.”
