Alvaro Morata has put a humorous spin on the recent controversy involving the mayor of Corbetta, closing the chapter with smiles, jokes, and a touch of derby rivalry. The Spanish striker quipped, “In the next place I live, the mayor must be a Milan fan.”
The incident that made headlines involved a clash between Morata and Marco Ballarini, the mayor of Corbetta, a small town of less than 20,000 inhabitants in Milan’s hinterland. Ballarini had publicly announced Morata’s move to the municipality, leading to a heated exchange on social media between the two.
In response to the controversy, Morata was presented with a “Golden Tapir” award by Valerio Staffelli on the popular Italian TV show “Striscia la notizia.” During the segment, Morata joked about the mayor’s well-known support for Inter Milan, saying, “Maybe the mayor should improve his TikTok and do some dance moves. We’ll send him a Milan shirt and see if he leans towards the right side of the city.”
Morata continued in a lighthearted vein, “The important thing is to protect the children. Now leave the mayor alone, it was just a joke. In the next place I live, the contract must specify that the mayor is a Milan fan.” When asked if he would change his residence, Morata responded with a playful, “I don’t know, probably.”
This humorous resolution comes after Ballarini had attempted to smooth things over by suggesting they “make peace over a sangria.”
