Does this stat prove that AC Milan are on course to beat Inter to the Scudetto?
AC Milan are second in Serie A with 50 points, five behind leaders Inter.
AC Milan find themselves in the hunt for Scudetto after a superb first half of the season sees them chasing down their fierce rivals Inter Milan.
After 23 matches, the Rossoneri have amassed an impressive 50 points which leaves them five points adrift of their local rivals. The gap is far from insurmountable and Stefano Pioli’s men in recent weeks have the momentum on the side to continue their push for the Serie A title.
Inter have been the team to beat this season but Milan’s consistency has ensured that the title race remains a genuine contest rather than a procession.
Supporters on both sides of the San Siro have genuine hope it’ll be their team that’ll be crowned as champions at the end of the season but there’s one omen that could be in the favour of the Rossoneri.
AC Milan vs Inter: Rossoneri hunting down their rivals at the top of the table
Milan’s recent performances have solidified their status as genuine challengers. Their latest victory over Bologna has given Milan a renewed sense of hope that their team mean business in the title race.
It is their third win in five matches, with draws against Roma and Fiorentina last month slowing down their title charge.
AC Milan’s Scudetto hopes now rest of whether they can maintain that brilliant form that has seen them reach this point of the season.
And while Juventus legend Michele Padovano believes Inter are favorites for the Scudetto, the Milan derby on March 8 will see the whole of Italy tune in to see if it’s advantage Inter or advantage Milan.
The stat that could prove AC Milan will beat Inter to the Scudetto
While momentum is subjective, history often provides a more concrete roadmap. And with that in mind, there’s one omen that could prove to be a winning one for Milan.
In the era of three points for a win, AC Milan have reached the 50-point mark after 23 games on two previous occasions. In both the 1995-96 (50 points after 23 games) and 2003-04 (58 points after 23 games) campaigns, Milan went on to win the Scudetto.
50 – #ACMilan picked up 50 points after 23 #SerieA seasonal games only for the third time in the three points for a win era, following 2003/04 (58) and 1995/96 (50): in both cases they won the league at the end of the season. Vertex.#Bolognamilan pic.twitter.com/MvaNAKUtMi

While this stat doesn’t necessarily prove that the Scudetto is heading to AC Milan, the omens are certainly with them.
While it doesn’t guarantee them lifting the title in the summer, it does suggests that when Milan find this level of consistency early in the year, they rarely let the opportunity slip through their fingers.
Reaching 50 points at this stage has historically acted as the gateway to the AC Milan Scudetto. It reflects a squad depth and a tactical maturity that can withstand the inevitable injuries and suspensions that occur during the grueling spring months.
While the five-point deficit to Inter is a hurdle, Milan have a psychological and statistical blueprint for success.
If history repeats itself for a third time, then Milan will know what their benchmark is for success every season going forward.
