Bologna Consider Vincenzo Italiano Replacement After Third Consecutive Serie A Defeat

Bologna are considering possible replacements for Vincenzo Italiano after suffering a third consecutive defeat in Serie A.

Vincenzo Italiano’s position at Bologna has come under huge pressure in recent weeks, as the Rossoblu have been defeated in three consecutive league matches.

Bologna were thrashed by AC Milan in their latest Serie A outing, as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christopher Nkunku and Adrien Rabiot secured a 3-0 victory for Max Allegri’s side.

Milan showed no signs of slowing down  after a frustrating transfer window saw Jean-Philippe Mateta’s deal collapse, but Bologna’s performance made it relatively simple for the Rossoneri.

The Rossoblu now sit 10th in Serie A, after consecutive defeats by Milan, Genoa and Fiorentina, leaving Italiano in a precarious position.

The Bologna manager was extremely critical of his side following the result against Milan and claimed his side cannot play well for more than one game.

Italiano said: “Unfortunately we’re conceding goals at every slightest mistake. We’re paying for every blunder. We were light at the back and they hurt us. We stayed in the game and tried to put them in difficulty, but we can’t play well one game after the other and we have to work on that.”

Dropping down to 10th will be a huge wake-up call for Bologna, as the Italian side looked to be pushing for a top four finish after a nine-game unbeaten streak between September 20th and November 22nd.

Bologna are still in contention for the Europa League after progressing into the Ro16 playoff stages, where they will face Brann across two legs in late February.

Alongside this, Bologna also have a Coppa Italia quarter final against Lazio on February 11th and a defeat could bring the end to Italiano’s time at the club – as the Serie A side target Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca was relieved of his duties as Chelsea manager on the opening day of 2026 after a reported fall-out with the club’s hierarchy.

The Italian lifted two pieces of silverware during his time in the English capital, winning the Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

However, this was not enough to keep a hold of his job at Stamford Bridge and Maresca is now on the hunt for a new challenge in 2026.

There were heavy rumors over a move to Manchester United after Ruben Amorim’s departure, but the Italian’s links with Manchester City ended any chance of a job at Old Trafford.

During a recent interview, Maresca opened the door to Serie A but was also hopeful of finding a new opportunity in the Premier League.

Vincenzo Italiano has one-year remaining on his current deal, but if Bologna’s form continues to drop in Serie A then the Italian could be forced out before the end of the season.
