Sassuolo Plotting Bid For USMNT Defender Bryan Reynolds

Bryan Reynolds has emerged as a target for Sassuolo who have contacted Westerlo over an initial six-month loan. 

Reynolds is high on the Neroverdi’s wishlist and head coach Fabio Grosso is trying to clinch a deal with the Belgian Pro League side before February 2.

According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri via Pieter-Jan Calcoen, De Kemphanen are demanding a fee of €6million for the USMNT right-back.

Bryan Reynolds Wanted By Sassuolo

Westerlo is demanding the fee for a permanent transfer and won’t entertain an initial loan offer. Which means Sassuolo will have to re-think their approach.

The Serie A side aren’t blessed with funds and will struggle to pay the €6m up front. Therefore, offloading players from their roster is perhaps the best plan of attack.

Loan signing Walid Cheddira returned to Napoli before signing for Lecce which has at least freed up much needed wages. However, acquiring Reynolds will take some graft.

Selling Inter Milan target Tarik Muharemovic is the most obvious solution but Grosso will not want to lose his star defender mid-season. Even for the €25-30m the Bosnian is expected to fetch.

The two clubs are expected to continue negotiations but from the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner’s perspective, it’s a hurdle that is proving difficult to navigate.

Sassuolo’s January Transfer Targets

With finances tight at the Mapei Stadium, loan deals are the best that Sassuolo can hope for currently. If Westerlo won’t budge on their demands for Bryan Reynolds, Marseille defender Ulisses Garcia is also an option.

The Switzerland international has fallen out of favor at the Velodrome and is seeking a new venture. Something of which the Neroverdi is happy to offer.

Elsewhere, Mbala Nzola may leave Pisa before the end of the transfer window. The 29-year-old would provide more attacking options for Grosso alongside Armand Lauriente.

The former Azzurri star is also keeping tabs on the likes of Phil Neumann and Christian Kouame. However, a deal for Reynolds is the main objective currently.

Having represented Roma – albeit across just five appearances – the American star does at least know Italian soccer. Something of which Grosso wants as his side aim for a mid-table finish.
