Douglas Luiz will return to Aston Villa after Juventus and Nottingham Forest both sanctioned a mid-season loan switch.
The Brazilian midfielder is on the books at Juventus, but he is surplus to Luciano Spalletti’s requirements.
Juve loaned Luiz to Nottingham Forest last summer, but his time there hasn’t proven fruitful.
Therefore, all the relevant parties have agreed a move that will see Luiz link up with former club Aston Villa on an option to buy.
Douglas Luiz to Aston Villa: Juventus set for €25m if option to buy is taken
Douglas Luiz made his name at Aston Villa after joining from Manchester City in 2019.
He shone for the Villans, but PSR-related issues meant the Villans had little choice but to sell Luiz to Juventus in 2024.
Luiz’s career has since taken a downturn, but it is hoped that a return to Villa will get him firing on all cylinders once again.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed that Luiz is currently undergoing a medical at Villa.
The agreement includes an option for the Premier League club to buy the midfielder for €25m plus add-ons at the end of the season.
Luiz’s move to Villa will terminate his current deal with Nottingham Forest, added Ornstein.

Luiz was on Chelsea’s radar earlier this month, but Villa have now won the race for the Brazilian.
Douglas Luiz: what the move means for Juventus
Douglas Luiz cost Juventus €50m plus €1.5m in add-ons in the summer of 2024.
This means that, even if Aston Villa trigger the option to buy, Juventus would likely be accepting a major loss on what they paid only 18 months earlier.
However, considering how much Luiz’s stock has fallen, Juve haven’t got much leverage.
Luiz has made only eight top-flight appearances this season, after a hamstring injury disrupted his rhythm.
He also struggled to establish himself as a starter in his first Juventus campaign, completing 90 minutes only twice.
That lack of continuity has lowered his market value. This helps explain why an option of just €25m is now on the table.
For Villa, the deal is about need as much as nostalgia. Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara and captain John McGinn are all out injured.
