The Stats And Historical Factor That Suggest Inter Milan Already Have One Hand On The Scudetto

Inter Milan returned to the top of Serie A on matchday 11 and the stats and history already suggest that the Scudetto is heading back to the San Siro this season.

A stunner from Lautaro Martinez and a second-half strike from Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Inter a 2-0 win against Lazio at the San Siro on November 9. Cristian Chivu’s men are level with Roma but have a stronger goal difference.

As it stands, Chivu’s side has registered 24 points from 33 available. The Romanian boss could become just the second head coach to win the Scudetto in his first season with the club.

History Favors Inter Milan To Win Serie A In 2025-26

Not only do the Inter Milan stats from this season suggest the title is heading to the Nerazzurri, history favors Cristian Chivu’s side, too.

FootItalia looked back across the last ten league leaders after 11 matchdays played. From the 2015-16 campaign up until 2024-25, 60% of teams who are top at this stage go on to win it.

Interestingly, Napoli was at the summit in Italy’s elite after MD11 in the 2021-22, 2017-18 and 2015-16 seasons and didn’t go on to lift the Scudetto. The other team was AC Milan in 2020-21.

Those who have been victorious are Inter, Napoli and Juventus. The latter have won three of those titles with Gli Azzurri winning two alongside Inter’s sole victory.

Summary Of Matchday 11 Serie A Leaders And Final Placements

Across the last three seasons, the matchday 11 league leaders have all gone on to win the Serie A title. That includes Napoli (2) and Inter Milan.

In 2021-22, Gli Azzurri had an electric start to the season securing 31 points from a possible 33. However, the Partenopei finished in third with AC Milan clinching the title.

The previous season, the Rossoneri actually led the way before being beaten to the Scudetto by rivals Inter. Napoli also feel victim to Juventus in 2017-18 and 2015-16.

Ange-Yoan Bonny moved from Parma and already has four goals and four assists to his name from 11 appearances. The Frenchman has an average rating of 6.80 on WhoScored.

More notably, captain and global superstar Lautaro Martinez has orchestrated much of the Nerazzurri’s offense. Martinez – who is in the running to win the Champions League Golden Boot – has four strikes and two assists registered.

Marcus Thuram has also chipped in with three goals from his six appearances. Injury has stunted his season slightly but he is expected to be firing on all cylinders again soon.

Elsewhere, up-and-coming star Pio Esposito can also be relied upon by Cristian Chivu. The Italy international has already scored his first top-flight goal this campaign.

However, perhaps the biggest surprise is the return provided by Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish star is Inter’s and Serie A’s leading scorer this season with five goals.

Overall, Chivu’s side has scored 26 times in the league after 11 matchdays. That is eight more than closest challengers Bologna and ten more than champions Napoli.
