Inter Milan are reportedly weighing up a shock move to sign Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard this summer.

The Nerazzurri are known admirers of the Norwegian international, and reports now suggest they could soon be read to make a move.

A potential approach has been just a pipe dream, given the calibre of the player and the state of play in the transfer market across Europe but that could now be about to change.

While Odegaard remains the heartbeat of Mikel Arteta’s side, Inter, as well as Bayern Munich, are ready to move for the 27-year-old should he call time on his stint at the Gunners.

Inter Milan could move for Martin Odegaard in the 2026 summer window

While a move for Odegaard this move is highly unlikely, Inter would return to the table in the summer.

By the time the summer 2026 transfer window opens, the midfielder will have just two years remaining on his deal.

According to IndyKaila, Odegaard has already begun exploring his options, weighing the possibility of a new adventure outside of England. He’s been an integral part of the Arsenal project since 2021, but joining Inter Milan could be a tempting next chapter.

Meanwhile, Inter are considering selling Marcus Thuram in the summer as the club continue with their plans of a major overhaul. The funds for the Frenchman could certainly help go towards a fee to affording Odegaard.

Why the Gunners might be forced to greenlight a record-breaking departure

While Arsenal would ideally prefer to keep their captain, they may be forced into selling the talismanic captain due to financial reasons.

The club has navigated a period of heavy investment, and a high-profile sale might be the most effective way to ensure continued compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). These financial guardrails have already forced several Premier League sides to make difficult decisions, and Arsenal aren’t immune to the pressure of balancing the books while remaining competitive.

Given Odegaard will have two years left on his current deal at the end of the season, Inter could be ready to test Arsenal’s resolves with an offer around €75million.

If Inter Milan were to offer anything near that ballpark, it would easily eclipse Arsenal’s previous record sale of the €38m they received from Liverpool for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back in 2017.

While Odegaard is a fan favorite, an injection of capital could provide the financials the club needs to fund the next phase of Arteta’s squad evolution without risking points deductions or transfer bans.
