Inter Are Facing a Summer of Painful Goodbyes
It’s down to Cristian Chivu to get Inter back on track. It seems quite clear that, at the end of the season, Inter will have to say goodbye to a lot of the team’s best players who were there during the Inzaghi era: Sommer, Acerbi, Darmian and Mkhitaryan are all out of contract, as is De Vrij (who could leave as early as January). Hakan Calhanoglu is also thinking about his future and is drawn to the idea of one last big contract at Galatasaray. Davide Frattesi is also on his way out. The midfielder is looking for the continuity he never found in Milan.
Rebuilding Authority and Identity Under Cristian Chivu
The plan is to get another attacker who can beat his man, and Giovane is top of the list. However, Roma seem to be in pole position for the Verona striker. Maybe add Valentin Carboni in a potential deal could help to finalize the transfer. The biggest changes will be in midfield and defence, since Tuttosport says Dumfries might be leaving. The Marco Palestra deal could be brought forward to January also because Juventus are set to abandon the lead in order to go all-in for Brooke Norton-Cuffy. However, Ausilio has already been in touch with Sassuolo about left-footed centre-back Tarik Muharemovic. Oumar Solet is still being watched, but Marotta wants to sort out his personal problems first.
Why the Stanković Bet Could Define the New Cycle
When it comes to midfield, the most popular names are Koné, Khéphren Thuram and Ederson. The Brazilian from Atalanta is probably the best option (contract expires in 2027) and would work really well with Barella. But the number one candidate to complete the midfield is a ‘product of the academy’: Aleksandar Stankovic. He made his breakthrough at Bruges, and the youngster has already been given the green light by Chivu, who coached him in the youth teams. Inter have a buy-back clause set at €23 million (€10 million of which has already been collected from the previous sale): an investment that, given current market prices, the management considers a real bargain to bring home a ‘Made in Inter’ talent.
