It’s fair to say that Cristian Chivu’s tenure as Inter Milan manager has not gone according to plan, as the Nerazzurri have picked up just three points from the opening three league matches so far.

The blue and black side of Milan began the 2025/26 campaign with a 5-0 win over Torino, before suffering a shock defeat at home to Torino just a week later.

Inter’s upcoming opponents ended their winless start to the season last time out, as Sassuolo earned a surprising 1-0 victory over Lazio thanks to Alieu Fadera.

Prior to this, Fabio Grosso’s side had been beaten by Napoli and Cremonese, with many questioning whether the newly-promoted side were ready for Italy’s top division.

Interestingly, despite Sassuolo being relegated and Inter winning the title in 2023/24, the Neroverdi earned a league double over the Nerazzurri – winning 2-1 at the San Siro and 1-0 at home.

The Nerazzurri will be huge favorites going into this match, with Inter being one of the leading candidates to win the Scudetto alongside Napoli and Juventus.

New signing, Manuel Akanji, is expected to start for Inter once again after the Swiss international claimed his time in the Serie A has gone ‘really well’ so far.

However, Cristian Chivu’s start to life in Milan has left many wondering if the former Serie A champions can replicate the form they showed under Simone Inzaghi.

Supporters will have grown in confidence after Inter’s performance in Europe and although Sassuolo have got the better of Inter in recent years, we expect the home side to pick up a narrow victory at the San Siro.

Thuram’s form in Serie A has not been as prolific, but the French international did score two on the opening day of the season during Inter’s 5-0 win over Torino.

During his time with Inter, Thuram has made one appearance against Sassuolo and contributed with an assist, so we believe the 29-year-old will go a step further on September 21st by finding the back of the net.
