Bologna Star Jhon Lucumi Will Be Watched By Sunderland Scouts In UEL Clash

According to the latest Jhon Lucumi transfer news, Sunderland will scout the Bologna star in the Europa League on September 25. 

The Rossoblu face Aston Villa in Birmingham in a repeat of their Champions League clash last season. Villa came out on top 2-0 on that occasion.

Goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran ensured the points stayed in England. Lucumi played the full 90 minutes and is expected to do so again on Thursday.

In July, Sunderland bid €25million for Jhon Lucumi. That offer was refused and the Black Cats were unable to strike a deal before the summer transfer window shut.

Nonetheless, the English Premier League newbies haven’t given up hope of signing the Bologna star. It’s expected that Regis Le Bris will send scouts to monitor Lucumi against Aston Villa in the Europa League.

The 27-year-old has featured in all four Serie A games this season. After a shaky start in the MD1 opener against Roma, Lucumi is looking back to his best.

He was pivotal in the Rossoblu’s Coppa Italia success and starred in the final against Milan. Lucumi and former team-mate Sam Beukema were highly priased for their performances. Hence why Sunderland want to lure Lucumi to the SoL.

Will Jhon Lucumi Sign A New Bologna Contract?

With a new Jhon Lucumi contract offer on the table, it’s unknown at this stage whether the Colombian will pen new terms in Emilia-Romagna.

Lucumi has been offered a substantial pay rise to commit his future until 2029. It’s understood the 27-year-old has been offered €1.5million per season.

Sunderland would likely offer around double that figure. With that in mind, it’s a financial opportunity that Lucumi would be very interested in.

Nonetheless, the Rossoblu will do everything in their power to keep Lucumi at the Renato Dall’Ara. His agent is set to meet with the club in the next two weeks to determine Lucumi’s long-term future.

How Much Would Jhon Lucumi Cost Sunderland?

If Jhon Lucumi does decide he wants to quit Bologna, a fee in the region of around €20million will likely tempt the Serie A side into negotiations. Especially as his current deal runs out in 2027.

It’s expected that Sunderland will return with a bid in January. Head coach Regis Le Bris is still very keen on bringing Lucumi into his side for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.

However, the Rossoblu will not want to lose one of their star players in the winter. If an adequate replacement can be found, that would make negotiations much smoother.
