Edoardo Motta has completed a move from Reggiana to Lazio which will see Juventus earn a six-figure windfall.

The Biancocelesti have announced the move on social media, with the 21-year-old signing a long-term contract reportedly until 2030.

‘SS Lazio announces that it has definitively acquired the rights to the contract of the footballer Edoardo Motta, who previously played for Associazione Calcio Reggiana 1919,’ they wrote.

The fee is said to be about €1m. And Juventus will benefit because they inserted a sell-on clause when he left Turin.

That clause is understood to be worth 50 percent of a future transfer, meaning Juventus should collect around €500,000 from this switch.

Edoardo Motta: why Juventus are profiting from goalkeeper joining Lazio

Edoardo Motta came through the Juventus youth system and enjoyed loan spells at Alessandria and Monza.

Juventus then sold him to Reggiana in the summer of 2024. However, they protected themselves by keeping a major percentage of any future sale.

Lazio have moved quickly, reportedly bringing him in five months earlier than initially planned and paying to secure his services now.

The windfall may not transform Juventus’ finances, but every extra euro helps when clubs are balancing budgets and planning future windows.

Sell-on clauses can be vital when academy players move on early, because one strong season elsewhere can quickly trigger a bigger transfer.

Edoardo Motta: what happens next at Lazio

Motta joins a Lazio squad eager to strengthen their goalkeeping depth for the second half of the season.

The Biancocelesti have identified him as the ideal replacement for Christos Mandas, who has moved on loan to Bournemouth.

Motta has been one of the best performing young players in this first half of the Serie B season.

He is likely to compete for minutes, learn in a demanding environment, and push for opportunities in cups and league matches.

At 21, Motta is still developing, but Lazio have faith in his credentials and potential to improve with better coaching.

Reggiana, meanwhile, lose a big talent mid-season, but the fee can help them plan and invest in their squad.

For Motta, the move is a major step up. He moves from Serie B to a historic top-flight club with European ambitions and a huge spotlight.

In other Biancocelesti news, Atalanta forward Daniel Maldini is Lazio-bound.
