Luciano Spalletti Left With Decision To Make As Dusan Vlahovic Set For Early Return From Injury
Dusan Vlahovic has taken huge steps in his recovery from injury and could make an early return.
Luciano Spalletti has been left with a decision to make as Dusan Vlahovic is set to make an early return from injury.
Dusan Vlahovic Nears Return From Injury
The Serbian has been out of action since November 29th after suffering a ‘high-grade lesion’ in his right adductor – an injury that required surgery just a few days later.
Since then, Juventus have been on a successful run in Serie A, winning four of their last six league matches and moving into the top four.
Following his surgery, Vlahovic was not expected to return until late March / early April, but this could be brought forward after an impressive recovery process.
According to reports, the Serbian international could be back in the matchday squad for February and Vlahovic could feature against Inter Milan on February 15th.
During Vlahovic’s absence Juventus have utilized Jonathan David and Lois Openda, but the striker duo have only registered three league goals between them.
David, who was recently applauded by Jesse Marsch, has faced heavy criticism since joining the Bianconeri in the summer and could make way for Vlahovic after he returns.
The Serbian striker has been linked with a move away from Turin as his deal with Juventus expires in June and he is the highest paid player in Serie A.
AC Milan are the front-runners to sign Vlahovic, causing Juventus to search for a new talisman in the January transfer window – but the Serbian’s latest injury update has impacted these plans.
Juventus Stall Search For Striker
Luciano Spalletti has made a strong start to his Juventus tenure and is expected to be heavily-backed during the January transfer window.
Initially, the Bianconeri were monitoring several strikers around Europe following Vlahovic’s absence – including Jean-Philippe Mateta, Federico Chiesa and Darwin Nunez.
Chiesa appears to be the primary candidate for an attacking signing this January, but Mohamed Salah’s situation could halt the Italian’s return to Juventus.
Salah’s ongoing issues with Liverpool is not the only factor in Juventus’ approach for Chiesa, as the Bianconeri are now questioning whether an attacking signing is necessary if Vlahovic makes an early return.
The Serbian has not returned to everyday training yet, but Spalletti is expecting to see Vlahovic back with the team before the January window closes.
