Mohamed Salah Could Block Federico Chiesa’s Dream Juventus Move
Chiesa wants to seal a return to Turin.
Mohamed Salah could block Federico Chiesa from joining Juventus this month, it has been revealed.
Federico Chiesa Wants To Join Juventus
The Italy international’s bit-part role at Anfield this season has led him to explore options elsewhere, and the Old Lady have made no secret of their interest in securing a return.
While Chiesa is not actively looking to force through a switch, his preferred destination is Turin.
Negotiations are already underway, although a compromise will be needed if the Reds are to allow the forward to go. Regardless, Juventus remain optimistic that they will eventually get the deal over the line.
Luciano Spalletti hopes to add attacking reinforcements to his squad before the end of the transfer window, and Chiesa has been identified as a target able to make an immediate impact.
The 28-year-old, of course, spent four years at Juventus, between 2020 and 2024. He is familiar with life in Serie A, having also played for Fiorentina. His ability to operate across the entire frontline also plays in his favour.
However, Liverpool have not officially greenlit the deal, and one major stumbling block remains.
Mohamed Salah Crucial In Federico Chiesa Transfer Saga
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the switch effectively hinges on Mohamed Salah’s future. The superstar, who is away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, could leave over the coming weeks.
Salah was dropped by Arne Slot for the 1-0 victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League last month after explosively claiming he had been “thrown under the bus” by his head coach.
The 33-year-old also revealed his relationship with Slot had broken down, leading the Dutchman to declare he had “no clue” whether the ace would play for the Reds again.
Despite this, Salah did make a second-half cameo in the 2-0 win against Brighton before leaving for the AFCON. He is now expected to stay on Merseyside until the end of the season, in a significant boost for Chiesa.
Chiesa is unlikely to have been permitted to leave had Salah decided to walk out at Anfield and left Slot’s attacking options threadbare.
Juventus Pushing Hard For Federico Chiesa Deal
While they wait to find out what lies ahead for Salah, Juventus are working on the deal for Chiesa. I Bianconeri would prefer a loan until the end of the season, but Liverpool want a permanent transfer.
According to Calciomercato, the Reds want above €10million as part of a straight deal or a loan with an obligation to buy. A gap remains between the two clubs, but the desire to find a compromise is said to be ‘greater’.
As a result, Juventus are reportedly confident of securing the Premier League side’s approval in the near future.
