Juventus Scudetto Race Gains Momentum

Juventus are back on track for the Scudetto title race. Spalletti’s team beat Cremonese 5-0 in the last Serie A matchday, gaining two points on Inter, Milan and Napoli in the standings and catching up with the Neapolitans and Roma in third place.

It’s true that the Bianconeri have one more game played than others, but Spalletti’s team is ready to fight it out until the end.

The 5-0 win over Cremonese had many positive aspects. These include the need to renew Weston McKennie’s contract and Jonathan David’s rediscovered scoring touch after starting for the third game in a row.

His goal against Sassuolo, a few days after missing a penalty against Lecce, may represented a significant turning point in his Serie A career.

Jonathan David Juventus Breakthrough

‘He just needed a period of adjustment. I am David’s coach in Canada. When I was at Salzburg, I coached Haaland. At Leipzig, I had Milan’s Nkunku and other great strikers. After Erling, who is a monster, David is the best striker I have worked with. He has always scored, and he will do so again in a tournament with less space, like Serie A,” his coach, Jesse Marsch, said last week.

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia before the match against Cremonese, Jonathan David spoke about his starting role:

“It’s a great opportunity, but above all, it’s a chance for us to gain points on our direct rivals. The goal against Sassuolo and the hug? I’m happy because they supported me and it shows that we’re a united group.”

Spalletti’s Faith Paying Off

Of course, Luciano Spalletti proved he had seen it coming when he spoke about David in his pre-match press conference:

‘It could give him a confidence boost because he played a great game. I expect him to continue growing because he fits in very well with the team. He dominates other areas of the pitch. He also has a good understanding with the other players, and we will put our trust in him.”

Jonathan David has scored double-digit goals in each of his previous five seasons at Lille. Including his two previous seasons at Gent in Belgium, that number rises to seven.

Only the next few games will reveal whether David has broken his duck, but Juventus has certainly found its striker again after a disastrous start.
