Jonathan David’s Juventus Future Cast Into Fresh Doubt After Panenka Penalty Woe

Jonathan David could be on his way out of Juventus after his horror miss from the spot against Lecce highlighted his Serie A struggles.

David fluffed the chance to give Juve the lead when his poorly executed Panenka penalty was easily saved by the Giallorossi’s Wladimiro Falcone.

The Bianconeri were unable to find a winner and the spoils were shared in Turin. Supporters were left frustrated with David who hasn’t scored domestically since the opening weekend of the season.

Will Jonathan David Quit Juventus In January?

Sevilla’s interest in Jonathan David has cooled in recent weeks and the LaLiga side would not have been impressed with his tame effort from 12 yards on January 3.

David was tipped for a move to Spain this month owing to his poor start for Juventus. However, he will need to improve greatly if he is to end his Bianconeri spell.

Having moved to Turin on a free transfer from Lille in the summer, David has failed to reach the heights expected of him. Hence why rumors of an exit quickly surfaced.

There’s no denying that David has the ability to succeed. But he’s inability to adapt to Serie A soccer is somewhat alarming and head coach Luciano Spalletti has plenty of thinking to do.

Owing to Dusan Vlahovic’s adductor injury which required surgery and Lois Openda’s poor form, David’s bacon may be saved. For now.

Juventus Target Darwin Nunez And Mateo Pellegrino

With Jonathan David’s future uncertain, Juventus have targeted Darwin Nunez. The Uruguay international is viewed more as a replacement for contract rebel Vlahovic who looks likely to leave on a free this summer.

In fact, Juve would be keen to bring the Liverpool flop to the Allianz this month. Especially as the Serbian isn’t expected back for another eight weeks and David and Lois Openda have struggled.

Elsewhere, Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino has also been identified. The Argentine has 11 goals in 31 Serie A appearances since moving to the Gialloblu last February.

Although not an out-and-out forward, Euro 2020 winner Federico Chiesa is also a strong consideration. The 28-year-old can play as a false 9 and is reportedly ‘considering‘ a return to Turin.

Naturally, a lot is expected to happen at the Allianz between now and the end of the transfer window. If Spalletti can bring in fresh blood, it makes it more likely that David will be heading for a new venture.

Despite the Canadian international’s struggles, a number of clubs across Europe will be interested. Newcastle are understood to be keen admirers alongside Fenerbahce.
