Lazio have begun talks with AC Milan over a January move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to reports from Italy.

Loftus-Cheek’s Milan future is uncertain, with reports of a potential move away having done the rounds in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Lazio are looking for alternatives to Matteo Guendouzi, who is apparently closing in on a move to Fenerbahce.

Loftus-Cheek is reportedly Lazio’s top midfield target, and now it looks as though they have got the ball rolling on a potential deal.

Sarri wants Loftus-Cheek reunion as Lazio step up pursuit

Tuttomercatoweb has claimed that Lazio are pressing for Loftus-Cheek and that negotiations are underway between the two clubs.

The 28-year-old is viewed as a ready-made replacement if Guendouzi departs, with Lazio keen to avoid leaving Maurizio Sarri short in midfield.

Fenerbahce have reportedly made a formal offer worth about €27m for Guendouzi, with Lazio weighing up the proposal.

Indeed, he has apparently said goodbye to his current teammates, suggesting there is little chance of him staying put.

Loftus-Cheek appeals to Lazio because he offers height, power and ball-carrying, as well as the ability to arrive late into the box.

Sarri also knows him well from their shared time at Chelsea, where the midfielder played some of his best football under the Italian coach.

How likely Milan are to sell Loftus-Cheek in January

Loftus-Cheek has struggled for game time at Milan this season. He is apparently seeking a fresh challenge for the second half of the campaign.

The 29-year-old made the England squad towards the end of 2025, putting him in contention for a spot in the 2026 World Cup squad.

However, Loftus-Cheek will need to be playing regularly in order to impress Thomas Tuchel.

In December, it was reported that Milan were open to offers for Loftus-Cheek.

TMW’s report has now claimed that the Rossoneri are ‘not keen’ on selling the England international.

However, they claim a ‘very convincing offer’ from Lazio could turn Milan’s heads.

In October, MilanLive reported that the Rossoneri value Loftus-Cheek at around €20m.

Lazio have earned around €29m from the Castellanos to West Ham deal, so they have money to reinvest.

All in all, it looks like Milan are open to selling Loftus-Cheek, though they’re in no rush to do so.
