Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mario Gila are at the center of a potential swap deal during the January transfer window.

AC Milan desires a new defender this month whereas Lazio are keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks. Therefore, the two Serie A sides are planning to sit down and discuss a possible exchange of sorts.

Loftus-Cheek’s time at Milan is seemingly coming to an end. Head coach Max Allegri is happy to let the midfielder leave whereas Gila is desperate to quit the Stadio Olimpico.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek Unwanted By AC Milan

In December, it was reported that AC Milan could sell Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Rossoneri are willing to listen to all suitable offers for the midfielder.

The player himself is keen to leave, too. Loftus-Cheek’s England recall in September means he has a fair chance of making the Three Lions 2026 World Cup squad.

Therefore, he wants to ensure he earns as much game-time as possible in the lead up to soccer’s greatest extravaganza in the summer.

Loftus-Cheek has made a number of appearances from the bench this season and a reunion with Maurizio Sarri is one that excites the 29-year-old. The duo spent the 2018-19 campaign at Chelsea.

Mario Gila Could Finally Leave Lazio

With Taty Castellanos West Ham bound, center-back Mario Gila could be the next Lazio star to depart the capital. That despite the Spaniard featuring in all but one Serie A game this season.

Gila has been unhappy for some time now and interestingly, has been a long-term target for AC Milan. Even more so now as Matteo Gabbia’s injury has heightened the need for cover at the back.

The Biancocelestri’s precarious financial problems have been well documented and shipping players off is a necessity. However, Maurizio Sarri was hoping to bank around €20million for the defender.

With that in mind, the finer details of the deal will need to be discussed in further detail. And that is where Igli Tare and Claudio Lotito come into the equation.

How Would The Ruben Loftus-Cheek And Mario Gila Swap Deal Work?

In theory, the deal involving AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lazio’s Mario Gila isn’t planned to be a straight ‘swap.’ AC Milan’s Igli Tare and Lazio’s Claudio Lotito will need to thrash out terms to suit both parties.

Loftus-Cheek earns far more than Gila so there is plenty of work to do on that front. Sempre Milan reports that a loan deal that covers approximately €2.5m of Loftus-Cheek’s salary would make the transfer more smoother.

From Gila’s perspective, he earns considerably less and naturally, wants a sizable pay increase. Something of which Milan would happily oblige to.

The main objective for Tare and Lotito to agree upon suitable fees. Something of which is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks.
