Taty Castellanos Edges Closer To Lazio Exit As Biancocelesti Agree €29million Deal With West Ham

According to the latest Taty Castellanos transfer news, West Ham is closing in on a deal for the Lazio forward. 

Castellanos finished last season as the Biancocelestri’s top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions. The Argentine striker has been in the capital for the last two-and-a-half seasons and scored 22 times in total.

When the 27-year-old represented Girona in 2022-23, Castellanos famously scored four goals in a single league game against Real Madrid. The first player to do so in 75 years.

As much as supporters will be sad to see Castellanos leave the Stadio Olimpico, his sale will bring in much-needed funds to help combat the club’s precarious financial position.

Taty Castellanos Transfer News – West Ham Agree Deal

Before the New Year, interest in Taty Castellanos intensified dramatically. Brentford, Leeds and West Ham were all interested in his services but it appears the Hammers have won the ace for his signature.

The Londoners are struggling in England’s elite soccer division this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have already shipped off Niclas Fullkrug to AC Milan.

Despite the German international’s struggles at the London Stadium, West Ham was already desperate to sign a new striker. Not only is Castellanos set to join, Pablo from Gil Vicente is heading to Old Blighty, too.

Santo will be hoping his new-look strike force will generate the goals needed to starve off the threat of relegation. And with Castellanos on board, their cause will be considerably aided.

Taty Castellanos Career Stats

Having started his soccer career with Universidad de Chile, it was a loan spell at Uruguay’s Torque where Taty Castellanos  began to make a name for himself.

Having moved on loan from Universidad in 2017, he helped the club achieve promotion to the top-flight before signing a permanent deal. Castellanos scored five times in 30 appearances for the Celeste.

However, it was during his time in MLS that Castellanos began to receive wider recognition. Having spent five seasons with New York FC, Castellanos scored an impressive 58 goals in 124 appearances.

His most successful campaign came in 2021 whereby he netted 23 times in 36 outings. Such form led to him landing the MLS Golden Boot, a place in the MLS Best XI and August’s MLS Player of the Month.

Castellanos also helped New York to the MLS Cup. That is still his only major club honor to date. His lethal form that season caught the attention of Girona (where he scored four times in one game against Real Madrid), before Lazio came calling.

All in all, Castellanos has scored exactly 100 goals in 299 appearances. Maurizio Sarri – who underwent minor heart surgery recently – will need to work hard to find an adequate replacement for the Argentina international.

Who Could Lazio Sign As A Replacement?

In December, Lazio targeted Andrea Pinamonti from Sassuolo. He is still very much under consideration but there are other targets the Biancocelestri are eyeing-up.

Azzurri international Giacomo Raspadori was also on their radar. However, Raspadori is keen on Roma instead – leaving Maurizio Sarri to look elsewhere.

Mikal Oyarzabal, Lorenzo Insigne and Cucho Hernandez all remain on Sarri’s shortlist. It’s extremely likely other names will emerge in the coming weeks as Lazio can start trading freely again.

As tricky as it will be to replace some of Taty Castellanos’ caliber, wily old boss Sarri has plenty of experience in the transfer market to make the right call.
