Pedro Signs One Year Extension Deal With Lazio As Former Barcelona Star Nears 38th Birthday

Start

Former Barcelona star, Pedro, has agreed a deal with Lazio to extend his spell in Italy by another year ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Why Did Pedro Sign A New Deal With Lazio?

After almost four successful years with Lazio, Pedro has decided to extend his time in Rome by another year by agreeing a one-year extension with the Serie A side.

The 37-year-old has made 176 appearances for the club since signing in August 2021 and the Spaniard has contributed to 51 goals in the process.

His 2024/25 campaign showed enough for the Laziali to extend his deal by another year, as the club finished seventh in the league and Pedro contributed to 19 goals across all competitions.

Continuing his career for another season could see the former Barcelona star add more accolades to an already illustrious career which already includes five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, three Copa del Rays, Premier League and FA Cup, while also winning the World Cup and European Championship with Spain.

Initially, Pedro’s move to Lazio did cause some uproar in Italy as he left Roma to join their city-based rivals, a controversial move that Emerson has been linked with this summer.

The Serie A side commented on the decision to extend Pedro’s deal in Italy, highlighting the soccer icon’s key qualities on Lazio’s official website.

The statement said: “S.S. Lazio announces the contract renewal of footballer Pedro Rodriguez, who will remain with the Biancocelesti until June 30, 2026.

“A World Cup and European Championship winner, and a champion of all the major international club competitions, Pedro has consistently embodied experience, balance, and dedication both on and off the pitch. With Lazio, he has made 176 appearances and scored 34 goals, becoming a key figure within the squad.

“This renewal reflects a strategy of continuity and solidity: Pedro’s experience and reliability will be vital assets in facing the challenges of the upcoming season.”

When Will Pedro Retire?

Given his age, many expected the Spaniard to call it a day in the world of soccer, after competing at the highest level for almost two decades across multiple leagues in Europe.

However, the veteran is keen on playing for another season, but not just competing, playing in one of the biggest leagues in soccer with Serie A side Lazio.

Maurizio Sarri’s side will not be competing in Europe next season after a seventh place finish and will be looking to prove fans wrong after being priced as outsiders to win the league title on Serie A betting sites.

Pedro has enjoyed a strong run in Italy, making 158 appearances in Serie A, which is his longest-run in any league bar La Liga – where he made 204 appearances for Barcelona.
