Call it, if you will, a miracle by Massimiliano Allegri. Yet another one this season. Mike Maignan has given the green light for discussions on a new contract with Milan. Few Milan fans believed in the potential positive effect that Allegri’s return could have on the Rossoneri this year. Yet, in hindsight, those few fans were right.

The talks between Maignan and Milan regarding his contract renewal in recent hours appear to be heading in a positive direction. In other words, the goalkeeper seems to have come to the conclusion that continuing his relationship with the Rossoneri is the best solution for his career at this point in time (under certain financial conditions, of course).

Maignan’s desire was to leave the Rossoneri due to the total breakdown in relations with the management after the failure to reach an agreement a year ago. There were long months during which the chances of reaching an agreement were practically zero, partly because the parties had broken off talks.

Then several things happened, and the inertia of the situation began to change. Also worth noting is the role of new coach Filippi, who has been mentioned several times by Allegri and the goalkeeper himself. The rest was done first by the player himself, with performances returning to the level of Maignan at his best, and then by Milan, who reopened negotiations by submitting a third renewal proposal that was essentially back to the parameters of the first offer. That is, a financial adjustment that, including bonuses, would make the Frenchman the highest-paid player on the squad alongside Leao (7 million).
