Manchester United Flop Seeks Serie A Switch After Michael Carrick Appointment
Manuel Ugarte is questioning his Manchester United future after Ruben Amorim's departure.
Multiple Serie A sides are targeting Manuel Ugarte as the Uruguayan is set to fall out-of-favor under the new Manchester United manager, Michael Carrick.
Manuel Ugarte Set For Serie A Switch
The Manchester United midfielder could be heading out of the door at Old Trafford after less than 18-months, as Ugarte considers a move to Serie A.
Many expected the former PSG star to become a regular member in Manchester United’s midfield after Ruben Amorim took the reins in November 2024 – due to their previous spell in Portugal.
However, the Uruguay international failed to meet expectations and found himself down in the pecking order at Old Trafford, behind the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.
The Red Devils have recently announced the appointment of Michael Carrick for the remainder of this season and the Englishman is expected to utilize Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo was a rare member under Ruben Amorim and is set to be boosted by Carrick’s appointment, while Ugarte’s experience is set to be the opposite.
The 24-year-old has been targeted by Lazio, after Maurizio Sarri took aim at the club’s board for a lack of support in the transfer market and the transfer ban from the summer.
Ugarte is being viewed as a perfect replacement for Matteo Guendouzi, after the Frenchman’s move to Fenerbahce and the Serie A side are willing to bring in the Uruguayan on loan.
Alternatively, Atalanta could be a strong option for the Manchester United star, as the Red Devils are reportedly looking to complete a swap deal this month.
Manchester United Keen On Ederson Deal
The Premier League giants could offload Manuel Ugarte this month while also bringing in a perfect replacement, as the Red Devils chase Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
United have been long-term admirers of the Brazilian, contacting Atalanta over a move for multiple transfer windows now and Ugarte’s situation could create a perfect resolution for both clubs.
Atalanta have seen a recent rise in performance since Raffaele Palladino’s appointment and are closing in on a €22million deal for Giacomo Raspadori.
This shows that the board are willing to back their new manager in the January window, while also making major decisions over the squad.
Ederson has made 15 starts in Serie A this season and is a valuable member of the Atalanta side, however his deal in Bergamo is set to expire in June 2027.
United are reportedly unwilling to meet La Dea’s €50m price tag, but there could be some negotiations over a swap-deal including Manuel Ugarte.
