Napoli are set to step up contract talks with Scott McTominay in a bid to stave off big-name interest.

Napoli Want New Scott McTominay Contract

As reported by FootItalia, Real Madrid want McTominay, as do Bayern Munich. Indeed, both clubs are ready to test the Partenopei’s resolve over the world-class midfielder.

McTominay has been a surprise revelation since arriving in Naples from Manchester United in 2024.

United begrudingly agreed to a £25million bargain sale to head off potential Financial Fair Play issues, and Antonio Conte has helped the Scottish international progress from strength to strength.

He played a crucial role in the Serie A title glory in his debut campaign, having scored 12 goals and clinched the top-flight’s Most Valuable Player award. That led to him being nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

McTominay is desperate to win more silverware and would like to do so with Napoli. He will, therefore, hold talks with the club over a contract renewal, with his current deal set to run down in the summer of 2028.

Napoli are determined to stave off interest in the 29-year-old ahead of the upcoming World Cup. They want to hand him fresh terms until 2030, and his agents are expected in the city next month.

He is also in line for a significant pay rise. Currently, he banks €3m net plus bonuses.

Manchester United and Newcastle United have been keeping a keen eye on McTominay, while there is also interest from Saudi Arabia. However, Aurelio de Laurentiis is not interested in the slightest in letting him go.

Scott McTominay ‘Priceless’ For Napoli

McTominay would command a fee in the region of €70m, a price tag Real Madrid and Bayern Munich could match.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, this would represent a fair deal for a player ready to take the next step up.

Speaking via Canale8, the transfer expert said: “He is a Bayern Munich or Real Madrid-level player.

“The better he continues to perform, the more big European clubs could come calling in the summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if a club of that calibre comes in for him in the summer.

“For Napoli, he is priceless. For me, he is worth about €70m.”

Napoli have a track record of trying to lock down their best players before wealthier clubs begin to circle. McTominay is the latest in a long line to find himself in this situation, but there is confidence that he will stay.

There is also no need to rush. Beginning renewal talks now helps them control the narrative – a smart move.
