AI Supercomputer Predicts What The New Cagliari Stadium Could Look Like As Gli Isolani Receive Approval After Ten-Year Wait
Cagliari can start planning for a brand new stadium after the club received final approval on November 12.
FootItalia’s AI supercomputer has predicted what the new Cagliari stadium will look like after the club received final approval to build.
The Serie A side have endured a decade-long wait but the go-ahead has now been given the thumbs up. Much to the delight of Massimo Zedda, the mayor of Cagliari.
After AC Milan and Inter Milan acquired the San Siro earlier this month, it’s another groundbreaking move for the Italian top-flight.
✅ After 10 years, Cagliari have their stadium plans approved
The mayor Massimo Zedda confirmed today: “we’ve been waiting for this news for a decade.”

What Will The New Cagliari Stadium Look Like?
With a new Napoli Stadium also being discussed, Cagliari supporters can already start to look forward to what their soccer cathedral will look like.
And FootItalia’s supercomputer hasn’t disappointed. The sleek, slick and modern design that has been predicted will excite Gli Isolani fans.
The venue itself is intended to integrate with the surrounding landscape in Sardinia. It’s expected to be built on the site of the now defunct Stadio Sant’Elia which served as the Rossoblu’s home from 1970-2017.
Granted, it won’t be as large as what the new San Siro is predicted to look like. Nonetheless, it’s expected to be positioned on the coast which offers an external plaza and will include multi-functional spaces.

What Did The Mayor Say About Cagliari’s New Stadium?
Naturally, Mayor Massimo Zedda expressed his delight at the approval to build a new Cagliari stadium. Especially as it has taken 10 years to get to this stage.
“We’ve been waiting for this news for ten years,” Zedda said.
“We will proceed quickly with the next steps.
“As soon as Cagliari Calcio submits its updated economic and financial plan, we can begin the necessary formalities that will lead to the publication of the international tender for the construction and management concession for the new home of football, entertainment, and major events for all Sardinians.”

Will The Venue Host Euro 2032 Fixtures?
Although no proposed deadline has been set for a completion date, Cagliari hopes it will be fit for purpose before 2032. That is when Italy – alongside Turkey – will co-host the European Championship.
Naturally, the city envisages being a host venue for the eagerly anticipated tournament. When the Italians last hosted a major tournament in 1990, the Rossoblu’s old stadium (Sant’Elia) hosted a number of World Cup games.
Three of those were England’s group games. It’s widely accepted that the matches were held there owing to the country’s hooligan problem at the time.
Therefore, Sardinia – as an island – has proven that they are more than capable of hosting games of the highest order. Assuming the new stadium is built on time, it has a very good chance of being included for the Euros in seven years time.

Total Cost, Capacity And Name Of The New Cagliari Stadium
It’s expected that the new Cagliari stadium will cost approximately €187million plus VAT. That is around €40m more than what it would have cost three years ago.
How the sum will be distributed hasn’t been determined yet. However, it’s likely that the figure will be spread among the various stakeholders.
In terms of the name, it’s set to be named after club legend Gigi Riva. The former Azzurri star passed away in January 2024 and is widely considered Gli Isolani’s greatest-ever player.
The stadium will have a projected capacity of 25,000 but can be increased to 30,000. Not only will the venue host soccer games, music concerts as well as hospitality events will also take place there.
