AC Milan Closing In On Straight Loan Signing Of Germany Striker Niclas Fullkrug
Fullkrug has scored just three times in 24 outings for West Ham.
Niclas Fullkrug is edging closer to a loan switch to AC Milan which would see him join the Rossoneri until the end of the season.
Fullkrug has endured a difficult 18 months with parent club West Ham United. Having struggled with injuries and goals in the English Premier League, the 32-year-old is keen to move on.
Milan have kept tabs on Fullkrug for the last three months as they aim to add more firepower to their ranks going into the second-half of the campaign.
Niclas Fullkrug Set For AC Milan Loan
Despite Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham stats being somewhat unimpressive, AC Milan are willing to give the Germany international a chance to impress in Serie A.
It’s no secret that Milan have been on the lookout for a new goal-getter and they believe Fullkrug can thrive in Italy. Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez have struggled so far and Max Allegri wants another option to utilize.
Poster boys Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic have shined under the guidance of the Rossoneri head coach. However, injuries and fitness problems have disrupted their campaigns.
Now, various outlets are reporting that Fullkrug and AC have agreed to a straight loan. There will be no fee involved and no obligation/option to buy.
It’s also stated that the Italian giants will cover 100% of Fullkrug’s wages until the end of the season. That figure is approximately €1.5million.
Dusan Vlahovic Transfer News
Although Igli Tare wants a verbal agreement with West Ham as soon as possible for Niclas Fullkrug, the potential loan is quite literally viewed as a stop gap.
That is because Dusan Vlahovic remains AC Milan’s main priority for the summer. Vlahovic’s latest injury update means he is out of action until at least March having undergone surgery on an adductor tear.
Nonetheless, the out-of-contract Juventus striker looks likely to leave Turin when his current deal expires in June. Reports suggest Barcelona have cooled their interest which has made the Rossoneri’s pursuit a lot easier.
Naturally, no transfer fee will be involved but Milan will have to stump up a sizable chunk of cash to satisfy Vlahovic’s sky-high salary. Although Fullkrug could be an option if he thrives at the San Siro, Vlahovic is better positioned to help restore the glory days.
Why AC Milan Want Niclas Fullkrug
Niclas Fullkrug hardly set pulses racing during his 18 months with West Ham. Expectations were very high after he excelled at Euro 2024 with Germany.
Fullkrug also had excellent campaigns in front of goal when he represented Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and Hannover 96.
Something of which AC Milan will be hoping he can replicate in Serie A. The demands and rigors of playing in England’s top-flight were perhaps too much for Fullkrug. Italy offers a more suited style to the DFB star.
Injuries did not help his cause either but from Milan’s perspective, Fullkrug is a financially sound choice. With no loan fee and no obligation in place, the Rossoneri essentially can’t lose.
The only slight concern will be Fullkrug’s fitness. He seems to be over the worst of his problems now but once he regains full match fitness, he could provide the missing piece of the puzzle for the Diavolo’s Scudetto’s hopes.
