When Did Parma Last Beat Roma Away From Home?

Finding success in the Italian capital has been an unattainable task for Parma in recent years and this challenge pops up once again on MD9 in Serie A, as Carlos Cuesta brings his side to Stadio Olimpico.

Parma’s away record against Roma makes for grim viewing if you are a I Crociati supporter, as Parma have not won at Stadio Olimpico since April 1997.

Since then, Parma have faced Roma 21 times in Serie A (away from home), failing to win on a singular occasion, drawing four and suffering 17 defeats.

Roma’s Troubles At Home In 2025/26

The Giallrossi currently sit third in Serie A after picking up 18-points from eight matches so far and are coming off a 1-0 victory over Sassuolo – with Paulo Dybala scoring his second goal since returning from injury.

However, despite this strong performance in Serie A so far, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have failed to make Stadio Olimpico a fortress this season and are one a run of three consecutive defeats at home.

Roma were beaten 1-0 by Lille in the Europa League on October 2nd, before suffering the same fate against Inter on October 18th and most recently, the Giallorossi were defeated 2-1 by Viktoria Plzen.

Gasperini’s men were also beaten by Torino at Stadio Olimpico on September 14th and have picked-up just two wins at home this season – beating Hellas Verona and Bologna.

This poor record at home will give Parma huge confidence on October 29th and Cuesta’s side are also unbeaten from their last two away matches.

Parma’s Resolute Defending 

Carlos Cuesta became the youngest manager in Serie A history when taking the role in Parma at just 29-years-old, after earning his stripes under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The Gunners now boast one of the best defenses in soccer and Cuesta has clearly taken this mindset into his first managerial role, as Parma have only conceded seven goals in Serie A this season.

Two of the favorites for the Serie A title, Napoli and Inter Milan, have both conceded more goals than Cuesta’s men this season and suggests that the attacking area of the pitch is where the problem lies.

One key factor for this strong defensive record is Japanese shot-stopper, Zion Suzuki, who has been one of the standout players in Italy this season.

Despite playing just two full seasons in Europe the 23-year-old goalkeeper is already being targeted by some of Europe’s elite sides and has kept three clean sheets in Serie A so far.

The youngster kept out a 97th minute penalty in Parma’s latest league clash, as Suzuki saved Maxwel Cornet’s spot-kick to earn his side a point on the road.

Suzuki has averaged three saves per 90 in Serie A, while also making zero errors leading to goals and will be a key factor for Parma – as the Giallorossi have looked toothless this season.

Gasperini’s side have scored eight goals in Italy’s top division so far, which is less than the likes of Cremonese, Udinese and Lazio, with their leading scorer, Matias Soule, scoring just three league goals.

If the Giallorossi are weak in front of goal on October 29th, Parma’s shot-stopper may give his side a base to build upon and allow Cuesta’s men to stay in the game – possibly securing a late ‘smash and grab’.

Parma currently sit 18th in the rankings for average possession in Serie A this season, as Carlos Cuesta’s side average around 42.5% of the ball per 90 minutes.
