Paulo Dybala has not formally met with Roma to discuss signing a new contract, according to reports.

Paulo Dybala’s Awkward Contract Stand-Off

Dybala looks set to leave Roma at the end of the season despite scoring in the 2-0 victory at Torino on Sunday.

The forward hinted that his stint in Italy would soon be coming to an end, comments which will raise the alarm bells at the Stadio Olimpico once again, particularly after talks over an extension stalled.

Gian Piero Gasperini still views the 32-year-old as a crucial player and unsurprisingly wants him to stay. However, speculation linking him with a move to Boca Juniors in his native Argentina is building.

As a result, the Giallorossi are likely preparing for a future without La Joya.

At least for now, his deal will run down in June 2026 after an automatic extension was triggered last January. That brought with it a hefty salary increase, with Dybala earning €6million net this season plus €2m in bonuses.

However, those figures are no longer financially viable for Roma, meaning a compromise must be reached.

But negotiations have barely begun, while a formal meeting to discuss a new deal has not yet taken place, according to Calciomercato.

With Roma’s priority on lowering their wage bill, and therefore reducing Dybala’s lucrative salary, a departure could be the best course of action for all parties.

Paulo Dybala Hints At Roma Departure

Dybala dropped a cryptic transfer bombshell after the victory over Torino, hinting he is weighing up moving on.

“I always talk to my family and friends. I’ve been here in Italy for almost fifteen years,” he said.

“For me, it represents something unique, almost half my life. The only statistic I’ve seen these days is that the next one will be my 600th career match. If I look back, so many things have happened, right?

Italy will always be something special to me. I don’t know how long I’ll stay here, but I’m enjoying it to the fullest.”

Gian Piero Gasperini Wants Talisman To Stay

Regardless of the forward’s scepticism, Gasperini wants Dybala to stay and remain an integral part of his project.

Speaking to Sky Sport on Sunday night, he said: “Dybala had a great game: his first goal was extraordinary.

“He and [Donyell] Malen understand each other. Paulo played a high-level game. He found a valuable reference point, and we’ll try to build on that in the next matches. When things are completed, everyone’s value rises.”
