Roma begin the Gian Piero Gasperini era on Saturday whereby a sellout Stadio Olimpico is ready to give the wily veteran head coach a rousing reception.

Gasperini moved from Atalanta in the summer to replace Claudio Ranieri. The former worked wonders in Bergamo and famously won the 2023-24 Europa League.

In terms of new recruits, seven new faces have joined the Giallorossi. Latest signing Leon Bailey is injured for the MD1 opener after suffering a muscle problem in his maiden training session.

The likes of Evan Ferguson, Wesley and Neil El Aynaoui are all expected to feature. High expectations lay on the shoulders of Ferguson in particular. He is expected to be one of Serie A’s top scorers this season.

If the Irishman is a regular on the scoresheet, there’s a high chance that Roma will finally secure a top-four berth this season. Something of which they just missed out on in 2024-25 with Ranieri steering the ship.

As for Bologna, they are still reveling in Coppa Italia glory. Dan Ndoye scored the only goal of the game against Milan which ended a 50-year trophy wait in May.

Although the goalscorer has left the Rossoblu, head coach Vincenzo Italiano extended his stay at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara earlier this summer.

The 47-year-old boss committed his long-term future to the club but has seen a number of star players quit during the off-season. Ndoye was perhaps the most notable departure alongside Sam Beukema.

Eight new players have joined Bologna so far during the summer transfer window. A number of them are expected to make their debut which include Czech centre-back Martin Vitik.

Although Roma are the slight +122 favorites with Serie A betting sites, Bologna have won on their last two visits to the Stadio Olimpico.

A third in a row will be the first time the Rossoblu have completed such a feat since 1939. However, Vincenzo Italiano’s side lost their last three league fixtures of 2024-25.

With that in mind, and owing to the Giallorossi having Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, we are going to favor the home side to nick all three points in a tight affair.
